I wonder what people think about that part of the article where the author paints people who want to see the unedited version of the show in a negative light. The author presents “but i am not epileptic” crowd as ableist and insensitive. I

Right, “working illegally” here means taking local jobs, not working for your own employer located in a foreign country.

Precisely this - countries protecting their job markets against foreigners working illegally (not paying taxes, undercutting wages, etc). This has nothing to do with you working for your own foreign employer while on vacation.

Spot on. Why not use any more or less standard cpu benchmark? The publication is either being strangely incompetent at this, or deliberately misleading.

Everyone keeps mentioning the same sci-fi shows mentioned already above, so I am just going to drop this one that I haven’t heard of before stumbling on it accidentally: Killjoys. And for something more recent: War of the worlds (tv show fr

It really depends. The company I work for - doesn’t even have a time-keeping system. Taking vacation is a matter of sending a slack or email, or simply verbally letting your manager and team mates know that you won’t be available. So far th

Indeed, I appreciate the explanation, it is certainly both interesting and informative to me, but to somewhat echo the person you are replying to - if I wanted a boat, and you offer me a boat, and it doesn’t float - the reasons for failure

I don’t know anything about LLMs beyond using ChatGPT and Copilot… but unless because of this lack of knowledge I am misinterpreting your reply - it sounds as if you are excusing the model giving a completely wrong answer to a question that

True, albeit the associated cost is firmly not in the “occasional use hobbyist” category. E.g. my wife using youtube tutorials to teach herself digital drafting to plan our kitchen remodel (with actual dimensions).

Hoping that somebody takes on Sketchup, Autocad etc with a similar approach to licensing. Subscriptions suck for tools you use occasionally. (Sketchup used to be like that until it was purchased by Tre-something).

What you are describing is an attribute of command-based economies. The typical market-based feedback mechanisms are often non-existent, or dulled - is it economical, is there demand, etc. In USSR everything was produced by state-owned fact

Congress also possesses a variety of tools to limit obstructionism if it so desires. But a more important point - is that congress is a tool of democracy itself and is a reflection of the attitudes and desires of the populace. If populace n

Can court override the power of congress to put Chevron into law? Have there been instances where court struck down a law passed by congress before?

Valid point! I’d like to hear more regarding this concern. While I don’t necessarily view what I referred to as “interpreting the gaps” as synonymous with “legislate”, IANAL and would appreciate professional opinion here.

I am not surprised that conservative-leaning court has put their finger on the scale of what they always described as “activism of agencies” and “legislating from the bench” by pushing the congress to act - I see it as consistent with conse

Congress can actually legislate the right of agencies to interpret the gaps in the laws back into effect - by passing a law that explicitly gives agencies this power. Just like congress can legislate abortion laws rather than leaving it to

If there companies paying 500K who’d like a software engineer to just professionally do the job, not complain, not have an agenda, not worry about promotions - drop me a reply. You pay, I work. That’s the all there’s to it.
