I think it's kinda funny that most of the tessellations are just using pentagons to make other shapes that tessellate naturally. I suppose the same could be said of most tessellations though, but it's still interesting.

Not only is that not what I was thinking of, which was more akin to a grandfather clock, but I don't believe that at all. Just using piezoelectric vibration sensors I was able to charge a cap to light up an LED- a rotor mechanism would

You're absolutely correct; I quoted a gross oversimplification of the theory. It's more to do with per generation than actual old people, and people are always protective of home value. Consider, however, that when an elderly pers

There's an entire economic theory that progress only happens when the older generation dies off. A bit grim, but I can believe it. There's a subdivision near my house that allows only 55+, and anytime anyone wants to do anything i

I can see that potentially being a problem, especially if dirt or something gets caught in it. However, the most delicate part of it is the most replaceable, that band could be easily made out of cloth or leather, and motors are usually fai

And before anyone jumps in and says "lithium batteries self discharge!" Yes, yes they do. But it's really, really small. It discharges quickly initially, but then tapers off to about 1% per month.

I think that's the best way to get kids into coding, not some forcefed programming gui, but "Hey, here's a game you can play in class!" and then just give suggestive nods towards the source code and "what happens if

Autohotkey is a crazy dense macroing tool; I originally thought it was just move the mouse and type, but it can do so, so much more- interface with spreadsheets, web browsers, heck, there's even a tiling window manager out there that&#

Nope. Passwords used by them young folk just fit the requirements, and nothing else. Now, geeky XKCD readers probably use a variant of correcthorsebatterystaple, so we've got that going for us.

Thats one of the reasons I like uBlock origin- supposedly, it says the ad was displayed/clicked on a webpage, which means I don't deal with ads and websites don't deal with money loss.

No idea if this is right, but I imagine that's how long it takes to get the word out to start tracking this number, after which the actual tracking happens quickly.

It's pretty cool- afaik, it's based off of the teensy 2.0 uC. There's actually some neat firmware that lets it emulate a flash drive at the same time as a keyboard/mouse, allowing you to deploy software on the flash driv
