That is approximately as true of Hacker News commenters as it is of Substack writers.

The Crown isn't really the monarchy when used in this sense and it doesn't have much to do with titles and such. It's a synecdoche used to refer to the UK government (and the governments of some commonwealth countries). Crown

I used to deal with the "avoiding going on Twitter" problem by subscribing to interesting AI Twitter feeds in Feedbin, an RSS aggregator. Unfortunately that doesn't work any more because the "genius" in charge revok

This article twice makes accusations of "racism, sexism, and abuse" without backing it up with facts. Is there any more information about it in the public sphere? Or is it just: "These things are bad and MariaDB is bad, so we

It's not that Pakistanis, Albanians, Somalians, Iraqis and so on are more inclined to crime, but that many of those who chose to immigrate to the UK are from parts of those societies who are inclined to crime. No one is worried about e

I use it for first drafts of some less demanding writing work. My workflow is more or less research with Bing Chat for summarisation and key point extraction, then feeding the results to GPT-4 so it uses the research as context for a first

The Playground certainly does have GPT-4. I've been using it there for a couple of weeks. Maybe you need to have applied to the beta and been given access? https://ibb.co/f2KJm4z As for Bing? Who knows what's goin

Probably a bit nitpicky, but there is at least one place outside the US/EU where it is very easy to find books in English.

I find the OpenAI API Playground is more reliable. It’s less convenient than ChatGPT Plus, but I’ve not had many timeouts. Plus, you can always use Bing Chat. It’s more locked down, but depending on what you’re doing, it’s pretty good and b

I suppose the idea is that you feed a scientific paper or research institute's PR to an LLM and it spits out an article. That's the bread and butter of many science journalists. An editor can make sure it isn't a load of nons

Yeah, I thought that the Lowell example was poorly chosen. I'm not American and I'm not all that interested in astronomy, and I've heard of Lowell and the Lowell Observatory.

You can probably get it to improve on that by asking it if the order of the topics makes sense. It can often self-correct if you ask it to reflect on what it's already said and give it a push in the right direction, although not always

It's the people driving the tractors who take jobs, not the ones building them. If you operate a hand-plough for a living when tractors come on the scene, you'd better learn how to drive a tractor. The same is true of AI.

It's not only the far right that value tradition and culture. And it's not only the right that tries to force the people around them to conform to their ideas of how the world should be.

There's a bit of a contradiction in your comment. You say Italians aren't like that, but Italians voted the "stupid government" into power and the government is doing these things to appeal to those Italians.

The APIs aren't free. For a large site, creating the embeddings and then serving lots of users would quickly get expensive. Although I do think this is overpriced.

Singapore is a parliamentary democracy with elected members of parliament and president. It is certainly not a "totalitarian country", although it could be considered authoritarian compared to western democracies.

What alternative would you suggest for a free service that depends on OpenAI APIs? It's easy enough to generate an API key for this service and delete it afterwards.
