For the mediocre coder like myself, it’s a game changer. Instead of finicking around with reading a weird dictionary schema in Python, I simply give a sample and boom I have code. Not to mention it shows me new ways of doing things that I

If you can do it better and use a very permissive open license, no one is stopping you.

WSL is amazing if you work for a non tech company that is a windows house but want to do development in Linux. It’s seamless (at least to my middle ability) for VS Code.

I struggle in two places - algorithms and understanding all the possible inputs to make a graph in something like MatPlotLib. I find most of my time is wasted trying to get something like those to work and I can do it easily in cursor with

When I read about this topic, I’m always reminded of David Lynch’s Lost Highway: Ed: Do you own a video camera? Renee Madison: No. Fred hates them. Fred Madison: I like to remember things my own way. Ed: What do you mean by that? Fred Madis

I feel like a lot of schools had this kind of number to ask questions, including my undergrad. Though I don’t think they go back 70 years. A popular question was “how many severed heads can fit into our stadium” and a couple of kids reason

Not reductionist at all. A country so steeped in corruption that even all its natural advantages (lots of English speakers, big population, low wages) can’t compete with China. They (their government specifically) needs to get their act t

This article is more Musk bashing, but I’d like to add that this is very common in companies private or public, large or small. CEOs and/or senior leaders get ideas stuck in their head and it becomes apparent that no amount of analysis

I’ve been enjoying a podcast called Our Prehistory. If you are interested in this kind of stuff, the first few episodes get really into this, and it’s definitely sunk some misconceptions I had about evolution (that other species groups liv

This is the best of HN comments. Engaging article engages a bunch of folks to share their own ideas and improve the lives of other readers. And no politics, yay!

This is a great point. It’s talked about in a book called Indistractabke. The author talks about trying to get rid of his phone during the day and even moving to a flip phone. But other nonsense just takes its place. It’s essentially lik

Why go with Ibis over Narwhals? Just curious. I really tried to work Ibis into my projects when I thought the native Ibis functions could be used until I went back to another tool like DuckDb or Polars, but I was finding Ibis couldn’t do so

So easy to get data in and out of an application, opens seamlessly in Excel or your favor DB for further inspection. The only issue is the comma rather than a less used separator like | that occasionally causes issues.
