At two large tech companies I worked for, people loved to throw around the term “blink of an eye!” to justify anything around 100ms “Oh, that’ll load in the blink of an eye! Only as much latency as the blink of an eye!” etc It was damn fru

Amen.. The only reason I keep playing pancake games is because all my friends are there. It'll be awesome when they're all in VR someday

I dunno, I don't have any numbers on hand, but it's pretty blatantly obvious that everyone gets sick in VR when they move around. I've never seen someone claim otherwise except this dude and a few random wackos on VR subredd

I don't think that's true. We can see in the comments that there was almost no useful discussion. It just immediately devolved into personal attacks with tons of upvotes.

IMO it's pretty disingenuous to just casually gloss over the fact that most people have to carefully condition themselves to get used to VR motion If you try to just power through the sim sickness, you can reprogram your body to get si

Outside of STEM classes, the only thing I learned that was relevant to my career was from my Technical Writing course, where I learned that people in charge can be capricious and screw you over in the process. The teacher didn't like

I wonder if you could make a business out of helping qualified US residents apply to these fake job postings and suing the companies when they get turned down..

The guy has a point, any experiences that move you around will make almost everyone who tries them sick after 10 to 30 minutes. Nobody’s found a perfect solution yet. On the upside, even a boring “stand around and talk to people” game will

Man, that’s a great point. Most of the commenters here can afford to just hop on a plane wherever they want with their limited vacation time, and of course a real trip is usually going to be better than a VR one.

Yeah.. I’m a bigger VR fan than most, but nobody has figured out the UX for it or any killer use cases yet. I don’t think Facebook is particularly likely to be able to ship something that can compete with whatever Microsoft or Apple can pu

Is there a way to use Matrix without signing up for it? That’s my main problem right now You can usually get some use out of Discord by just clicking an invitation link, but for Matrix it looks like I have to create an account with some sh

Yeah, the way we solved that is by including all the UI framework code in shared libraries bundled with the OS or separately installable. But for some reason people like to spaghetti-code in JavaScript inside a bloated web browser now

Man, some Eastern Europeans offered to write an app for me for $2000, and I assumed it was a scam since it'd be 50+ hours of work. Maybe I should hit those guys up again, if someone posting to HackerNews is making less as a programmer

They definitely ARE all-in on arbitrage. The FAANG megacorps are all pulling in upwards of $2M in revenue per year per coder on average. So what if some of them cost $600k/year?
