Try swapping a few characters in the compressed string before decompressing and get a totally unrelated, but somewhat plausible, sentence. --> 䔹䧹焫놉勏㦿顱㦽膑裚躈葊 Swapping last two: 䔹䧹焫놉勏㦿顱㦽膑裚葊躈 --> Try swapping a few c

Is there any evidence that the code produces scientifically-valid output?

The problem is not the lack of unit tests: The problem is that for outside observers there are no tests at all that compare the model outputs to some ground data. All the criticism would be moot if the model delivered sensible predictions.

This is just a list of excuses. Following good practices have nothing to do whether it is "commercial software" or "front-end software", as the author claims.

not that I agree with the final decision, but I can imagine "Play"/"Pause" to show up in a device manual and Smiling Poop as part of a chat message. Neither applies to the "external link" symbol.

These "statically linked" packages can solve certain problems very well. Packaging or installing Steam for non-Ubuntu platforms can be very tricky. I'm using the Steam flatpack version on Arch and it saved me a ton of hassle.
