That all sounds good and all but I feel like this would be a major engineering effort for a centralised system that seems particularly vulnerable to regulation right now. A good example of that is Discord "servers" with NSWF chann

That picture of the "dark" Earth is most fascinating because everyone has seen a million images of Earth before, but how many have seen it in this view. The image by itself says a little about the Earths place in the planetary sys

We kind of had the same idea for ECDSA public keys (an imagined solution to zokos triangle -- human readable and decentralized) as well as private keys (BIP39 brain wallets). Honestly it still falls short of truly name-based though.

That idea list is super cute. I like the tamagochi idea. Somehow the candidness of that file makes it seem like anthropic would be an easy place to work at.

I wonder how we might avoid this. It seems like often on this site we talk about matters of taste: like examples of good and bad systems. I wonder if there's a book focused on developing taste as an engineer, designer, etc in systems.

Whenever I hear about this AT protocol I think about the text-based commands to control cellular modems. I can't be the only one, r-right guise... r-right?

It seems strange to me that a single source would be used to resolve a bet any way. You have all this crap to make a platform "decentralized" and then it all collapses down to: "bruh, it happened, I swear." It really mak

It comes from academic papers on categorizing NAT behaviors which (trust me) is hardly the page turning research most people are used to. In these papers they talk about patterns NATs use between successive external port allocations -- whic

I mean the worst part about this is the author also vibe coded their security. It could have been much more catastrophic if they built a crypto wallet or trading system. But because it was NFTs I guess the max damage was limited. I have to

I feel this is a perfect complement to the current 1. link: https://satproto.org/ which implements its own CA system with different trade-offs.

The client fetches the pub key off the server which is decentralized? There's no part in the protocol that authenticates whether or not a pub key is legit. If its replaced by an attacker and someone subsequently goes to fetch a key the

Yeah, it is a really bad connotation. This infantile and obsessive shallow comparisons of everything. I utterly hate to see the term here on HN.

Another suggestion to add for you all (IDK how helpful.) When I see PyPy I see that its speed is faster for CPU-bound work but I'm thinking there is also I/O bound work that would see significant increases in the load they can han

I think the idea is that if an API (or anything really) is using a flexible cryptographic model then it would be possible to string together any system for use in any cryptographic scheme. For example: you could write the cryptographic equi

Most of the crypto in the OP requires trusted setup phases and is too slow to use for any kind of general-purpose computation. It's the reason why most cryptographic protocols consist of simpler schemes and don't try to do everyth

Very nice data science. All those studies crunched into a single image. Line length = study number. Green = improvement. It really shows what compounds have the most evidence and effects at a glance.
