I remember seeing on Twitter a while back that a really rich influencer lady had her husband buy enough books to fill a wall-sized bookshelf in their house purely for aesthetic purposes. I did some math in my head and, purchasing from somew

The games market is large, but not infinite. Like, there may be many space games, but only one space sim that has the depth and complexity of KSP 1, and that’s KSP 1. Not to mention that a lot of gamers have no idea what engine their favori

I think this take is a little overtorqued. Like, yes, this has caused more people to pay attention to Godot. But for those of us with upcoming projects in the next year, we’re all just gonna have to train up on Unreal because Godot is years

Ah, I wish it were that easy, but a number of my favorite games (KSP, Outer Wilds, Disco Elysium off the top of my head) are made in Unity. If you play indie PC games you can’t boycott Unity without missing a ton of really good games.

Thank you! I’ll check this out, I’d like to try integrating bottlerocket into some of my Terraform workflows.

Nah, this is more like React Native than PhoneGap, there’s no webview involved. The Kotlin code is somehow compiled into something that can run on iOS in a native or native-ish way.

When KSP 1 shipped its alpha, there wasn’t a perfectly functional KSP 0 it was competing against. From what I’ve heard, they’re using the KSP 1 engine (restricting how much better they can make things) but are somehow shipping with many of

OK cool, thanks for that information, but I do wish that someone would explain the mechanism for deploying this OS. Like, if it’s part of an ECS/EKS scheme I’ll tolerate some magic, but at the end of the day I’m a curious person and I’

Out of curiosity, how does OpenJDK not get sued into fine pulp over this? Oracle owns the Java trademark and aren’t exactly known for being kind in matters of litigation.

I’ve heard pf Lit Element, I have never seen it used in production. I work for an agency, so I see several new frontends every year, and almost all of them are Angular, React or Vue. I know that these other frameworks exist and what their d

I don’t think the crossover is bound to happen. With Web Components the browsers went all-in on ideas about components that made sense in the early 2010s, but then couldn’t evolve them because they had already standardized. In practice most

Not sure if this is different in Europe (check before saying it’s different, many people in the US aren’t aware of this either) but in the US at least all credit card transactions (and possibly debit too?) incur like a 3% fee. You’re paying

It’s not weird. When you’re dealing with an organization as big as the US government, you’re not going to be able to standardize on a single technology for front end engineering. So you say “Make all your stuff look like this” as an opening

A few things stick out to me here: - A lot of startups are already writing boring business software, you need a more specific vision. Whenever I meet startup people, they’re always super hardcore about their extremely niche market. Like, th

My most upvoted comment on HN by a mile was a joke about Siri. A lot of my other most upvoted comments are either jokes or humorous exaggerations or other silly stuff. The guidelines may say that humor should be avoided, but the readership

I’ve heard some people say that this is intrinsic to and required by capitalism. I sure hope not, since that would be a pretty damning indictment of capitalism, which I otherwise like for a lot of reasons.

Do you have stats on that or something? When I was a teenager (late 2000s) you definitely wanted a “good on college application job”, but you probably didn’t get it. At that point you wanted a “walking around money” job like MacDonallds, bu

I wouldn’t say that they’re introducing it, I see x64 used to refer to 64-bit x86 in a lot of places. If you don’t like it or think it’s technically wrong for some reason that’s one thing, but you’ll be fighting an uphill battle if you want

But this is exactly what I’m saying: if you’re sarcastic and the audience gets it, it’s good sarcasm. If you’re sarcastic and the audience doesn’t get it, it’s bad sarcasm. If you don’t have a clear enough context, just don’t be sarcastic.
