Field level validation(Is this email in a valid format) checking that input is sane is done at the UI level. Business rule validation(E.g student can't be assigned more than 10 courses) is done on the entities themselves. You put it on

If you implement the feature in the language, surely that language is expressing the spec.

I find TDD very good implementing business rules on objects. Not so great experimentation on UI and presentation, which is what you seem to be doing. You have to remember there a lot programmers out there, just implementing business rules i

The term making the test fail, isn't about explicitly making the test fail. It's about the fact that it's not implemented yet, so of course it going to fail!

Not really. Core tenants of TDD are failed test -> Get it working -> Refactor into something nice.

An important distinction is paper rich vs cash rich. A lot of startup founders are technically millionaires since the equity they own is valued at such. Actually getting the value in cash at some point is a lot harder, and the company may f

I work very close to them and looked at their job offerings. Their salaries are 'ok', increasing their salaries would make the largest difference.

This post hightlights the real barrier to entry for startups. Being connected with people with the money. It's normally the people with best connections and the best relationship with investors and not the best product market fit that

Exactly my point. Everybody was saying they were overvalued, and were about to crash. Yet they went even higher and still going higher almost 7 years later. Thus you can't time the market. Don't trust experts telling you to enter

People were saying that 3-4 years ago, and its gone up. Your trying to time the market.

When most say working for the money, what they mean is exactly what you mean. Things money can provide.

You just said money is irrelevant, then proceeded to list all the useful things money can do for a family? Money is just a proxy for useful things you can request.

This is standard advice for estimates. Yet most estimates are still wrong.

The fact that fudging it by 3, is now so popular, just indicates we can't really do estimates very well.

Thats because a lot of people know people who have done that, and ended setting back their financial position back many years. Then had trouble finding a job afterwords. There are a lot more failures than successes, but you hear about the s

HR typically like people who have been doing the exact same job for the past 5 years. In the corporate world, its hard to change positions because you are type cast.

Most simply use the system clock. Now if I would was building a machine critical distributed system I would advise against using the system clock and instead use some sort of logical clock. But in this case the clock doesn't need to be

Combed Guids are normally only partly sequential. It means they go be generated on any machine, returned to the user, and the request placed on a queue. Without completely messing up a clustered index.

Because it will eventually go into a clustered index once it's been processed.

Places where the user request, is detached from the actual insert. For example if you are using a queing system for user requests, but you still need to return an Id to the user. Fairly common when building a distributed application.

Very few people generate the guids database side. They normally generate them before they even insert it into the database.

You application generates sequential guids before placing in a database with a clustered index. Thus solving the issue with NEWSEQUENTIALID and clustered index issue.
