Both seem to work pretty well, if only I could actually use them. My aging eyes just can't deal with all the gray text on a white background in Fork, or the tiny text in GitUp. Sigh!

Jony Ive hasn't had a lot of design successes since Steve Jobs died. Some would even say he's had a lot of design failures since then. If Tim Cook made a mistake, it was letting Scott Forstall go instead of Jony Ive back in 2012.

I think that's the exact scenario they tried to avoid. The lightning cable is actually pretty stiff, it won't take long for it to break if one could use it pluged in like a wired mouse. I dislike most things Apple has done recent

I just can't get over how dumb this is in Java: List<String> names = new List<String>(); Why not let people write just: List<String> names = new List(); Why did they even need to invent the diamond opera

There's no need for type inference, nor repeating the type, especially if you're designing a new language anyway. Why not: String string = new ();

Cook would've been perfect if he had that critical eye, and he would've been the perfect replacement for Steve Jobs then. Alas, he's an operations guy, design is not really his forte. And that, my friend, is the reason

Jony Ive had been the CDO for years and the results weren't great. It's not that Jony Ive isn't a great designer. It's just that it's difficult to judge your own work, no matter how good you are. What they need, m

I used to read Gruber religiously. But no longer. He's still every bit the eloquent writer that he used to be. But I no longer respect his integrity. If he "don’t think Ive ever should have been put in control of software desig

You mean the 2015 MBP? That's widely regarded as the last good MBP.

I'll concede that skeuomorphism, at its worst, can be heavy and clunky; while flat design, at its best, can also be fun.

Objectively, "bland", "confusing". Subjective, "ugly" comes to mind.

Except it didn't have to be pixel perfect. Mac OS X was skeuomorphic and beautiful, yet it worked on various size displays, you could even resize a window, in real time, imagine that!

The biggest ding they could come up with against skeuomorphism is "heavy, clunky"? Skeuomorphic UIs maybe "heavy" and "clunky", but they were also beautiful, whimsical, and fun ! They brought me joy each time

I wandered into an Apple Store with my wife one day to look at the Apple Watches, the first major product designed without Steve Job's involvement. Looking at the thick, rounded rectangles, I laughed out loud and said "Jony Ive ha

It's slightly better now in terms of usability. Aesthetically it’s as big of a disaster as when it first came out. There’s only so much polishing they could do to a turd.

Sometimes I wonder if making the top level parentheses optional would go some way towards making Lisp more palatable to other programmers. So (def sum (partial reduce +)) (println (+ 1 (sum [1 2 3]))) becomes: def sum (

With doors you can push to exit, sure. More troublesome are those you have to pull. I basically have to wait impatiently by the door for the next guy to come in so I can get out without touching the door with my hand.
