Present the extension as an option then, not a requirement, with instructions on how to add the search manually. It looks promising but if you block access without the extension, a portion of users like me are just not going to give it a ch

Pretty obnoxious how it requires an extension on Chrome/Edge to use which seems to just change your default search setting. You can test it on Firefox without an extension.

Noted. I can't speak for anything other than VS Code but we have the toggle in product which is all you need to change to turn it off for the core, extensions may have their own setting or share the core toggle, but we often can't

Maybe there's a misunderstanding. The old toggle is deprecated, but the plan is that you will always be able to use it. The new toggle is just a different setting and can still be used there on newer versions ("telemetry.telemetry

Hi all, I work on the VS Code team. This came up the other day in stand up and the initial plan was to deprecate and eventually remove the old setting. Several of us pushed back and said while we may deprecate the setting in favor of someth

VS Code has the terminal.integrated.macOptionClickForcesSelection setting which will let you to alt+drag to use xterm.js' selection as opposed to tmux's selection. On Linux and Windows I believe it's shift+drag.

Just to clarify, xterm.js is not a Microsoft project and tries to remain neutral, but MS is essentially sponsoring it through my work. Also, a good deal of my time spent working on it particularly early on was for the love/fun of it in

xterm.js is only a frontend, you still need to plug it into a backend or write you own. A VM would probably be the way to go.

It should fare fairly well, at least for the most common sequences. We have detailed what VT features we support on the website[1]. Some things that stand out that I know won't work are blinking and double height/width text. [1]:

This is related to some issue with Safari's new WebGL 2 implementation they shipped recently[1]. Currently we disable the webgl renderer on Safari inside github.dev/codespaces to work around this. [1]: https://github.co

VS Code originally did not have tabs, since their introduction you have always been able to turn them off with the workbench.editor.showTabs setting.

As the maintainer of xterm.js I have no idea what you're suggesting? FWIW we just shipped xterm-headless which is literally a minimal version that uses less resources.

This is false. A very small amount of the core functionality of vscode is powered by native code, for example: find in files shells out to ripgrep, the majority of the other usages are mainly just exposing various native apis to js (like pt
