Khan Academy actually has pretty good videos on all this, which isn't that surprising giving Khan's background before he started Khan Academy. https://www.khanacademy.org/economics-finance-domain/core-fi...

My perspective on this is that lazy be default made sticking to purity much more compelling as if you just dropped print statements in you weren't sure exactly when they get evaluated. This lead to important developments like IO (they

Penney Arcade had good ads. They actually play the games that were advertised and it was also a stamp of approval.

It's also the case that you lose the code review if you force push to a PR's branch after adding in a typo fix and squashing locally, right? That's a pretty good reason not to squash till the review is done.

It's really hard to build an ecosystem when you have to complete again a "good enough" free google reader. I'm paying for my google reader replacement now, and fairly happy about it.

I'm pretty sure you're mistaken. I can only speak about browser history sync, but it gets deleted after 6 weeks. Someone broke something and it was producing mangled data. 6 weeks was the "cliff" for when mangled data st

But also, if you're shipping things to users browsers, please cut out all the stuff you don't use. I don't want to download 100 extra module's worth of JS code because it was bundled.

I just got Rust compiling for a linux kernel module. It wasn't too bad, though an inability to read C header files is kinda a pain. And for any target you are going to want to wrap things up in a "Rusty" api, as dealing with

Hoogle helps for Haskell projects, as you can search by Type, and the Types are expressive enough that that actually finds what you're looking for most of the time.

Refusing to put a licence on your code does stop people from using it. If you really don't care, just slap a MIT license on it and be done with it, no one will bother you afterwards.

I dunno, I have a blog, but I have no stats and no comment box, and I'm pretty sure my most frequent reader is myself. But it really does help to write down all the things, even if the only audience is future-you.

Grrr, that's not a Regular expression at all. I think you'd be better off looping over the string and counting the number of ( and )s in a loop, guaranteed linear time. I wish people would stop abusing regular expressions.

But pre-commiting to a strategy of say: "accept if 40 cents or more" could net more coins overall, right? I agree that if it was a one off game, then that would make sense, but it's an iterated game.

They external sites don't access it, they just ask the browser to load an image. So the external site can't read the result, but that's not actually stopping them from owning your machine.

Some of those do show up on iter. https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/iter/trait.Iterator.html But some of the more specialized ones don't work using just iter. But on the other hand, no iterator invalidation.
