Paul Ryan's comment completely ignores the context. The job of a judge is to make unbiased decisions. A judge engaged in ethnoactivism may conceivably be biased against a defendant whose political platform runs against those interests.

Yes, that his ties to his Mexican heritage would suggest that he would be biased specifically against Donald Trump due to Trump's position on Mexican immigration. This is not a particularly strong argument but it's hardly racist.

That thread has been flagged, despite being clearly a reputable source and in scope for 'hacker news'. There seems to be a cabal of down-voters to take politically undesirable stories off the HN homepage. For instance, a while ago

In this case there is much more to the story than sports entertainment. Ali was a man who stood up to a government that had conscripted him into a dubious war in a faraway land. He did so on principle, publicly, at great personal/profe

One of the best qualities people can have is to see the good in something/someone. The bad is of no value, so forget it, but celebrate the good. People here are celebrating the things they admired about a public figure. Likewise you ca

But we're not talking about 'most' people. We're talking about all people. What about the people who think to themselves, I don't want to work, I want to live off welfare. Now there will be more of those people (esp

Doesn't seem like the same thing to me. Negative income tax means you still need to find someone who will employ you, and also you don't get any benefit if you are above the threshold so it's not universal.

But it might create even bigger disincentives that have a much more universal effect, which could be disasterous.

I think creepyness has to relate to some perceived threat. Example: in horror films, children can be super creepy, because there is a hint of supernatural threat. But in real life? Never, because they pose no threat. Too focussed on somethi

1 standard deviation difference in group distributions of intelligence already seems to result in vast disparities in power, control of resources, etc. I shudder to think how a greatly magnified version of that will turn out.
