Crux of the issue is that everyone knows there’s a double standard. Why do they co-ordinate to block this story and not the countless other “unverified” scoops? Because it threatens a protected politician.

I've always used it as my homepage / page to check the news. It was an unpretentious news aggregator with a comments section where you could check to get the details which the articles neglected to mention. Lately they've shu

The universities produce knowledge, but also produce and preserve culture, and attract students from overseas, and dish out scholarships to students otherwise unable to afford tuition. Plus, you get beautiful campuses.

It’s pretty benign when you think about it. Rich, successful people creating public goods so that their less-brilliant children can save face. What better trade-off are we going to get?

I suppose another possibility is that the market just deals with it. Through wages, employee retention, or 'danger money' for the non-convict colleagues.

You have to consider the stochastic nature of crime and policing. The size of the population, the size of the force, behaviour altered by substance abuse, the prevalence of deadly weapons, the mental toll of dealing with criminals every day

We can split hairs about 'defunding' vs 'abolishing', but I just get the distinct impression that many people have got no real idea about the threat that crime poses to the prosperity of a community (or city or state), a
