It just struck me that Three Thousand Years of Longing is a movie about telling stories, the tradition and power of myth.

The framing of most all of the Max Max movies is that they are stories being told by an unknown narrator. So any variation is fair game, I think. Unreliable narrators and such. In the context of the new movies, they've even created cha

Furiosa made me realize that this kind of storytelling, one that relies on worldbuilding and often prior-worldbuilding is the (or a) current way we approach movies. I mean pretty obvious considering the primacy of superhero movies, but wort

The neighborhood was .3 acre lots with houses crammed fence to fence. We were on top of each other. The outdoor tv was a HUGE dick move that is becoming more and more accepted.

honestly I don't need Max to summarize wikipedia pages for me: Non-sequitur jokes with the occasional riff on something I said would feel real enough.

I had an obnoxious neighbor with a tv on his back porch who would watch Love is Blind so loud I could hear it throughout my house. Was kind of hoping this would be about that.

If I want one thing out of AI (besides not destroying humanity) it would be an old CRT in the corner of my house with an AI Max Headroom I could talk to.

Ever since the death of Google Reader and the slow painful death of RSS I've been starved for good aggregation of non-stupid culture writing. This is a decent start.

I read The Right Stuff recently and it was a pleasure. Very full of life and colorful and he really was able to get at what made these test pilots and astronauts the tick.

One of the great ironies of this situation is many of the now defunct websites had contracts and writing agreements that were absolutely egregious. Often the boilerplate would say that they owned the article (which they paid you a pittance

It might seem counter-intuitive, but Game Informer was fairly recently (and for a good stretch) in the top ten of US print magazine circulation -- mailing out 6-7 million copies a month. As people stopped subscribing to magazines and buying

This piece kind of blew my mind. It is kind of like the flip side of the "enshittification" argument. Or another way of looking at the same phenomenon. It's not a perfect alegory or whatever, but it's one of the better w

One of the things I find frustrating about music suggestions is that the app/algorithm doesn't care why you like a certain band. A long time ago I asked Pandora to make David Bowie station and it rolled me a generic classic rock s
