It's a bit more complicated than that. NASA didn't build the moon rocket or the shuttle, they use a huge number of private contractors so much of the technical progress is pretty intertwined between public and private sectors.

Blueprint is just a visual wrapper for the C++ API - a large amount of the functions exposed to you are 1:1 representations of functions from the API. Once you spend some time reading over the API documentation it becomes easier.

Well, and infrastructure. Very few places in the US are difficult or impossible to deliver to via roads.

Why isn't it possible for a programmer to step away from their desk at any time, and another programmer sit down and pick up right where you left off? Synthesis and planning happen between your ears, and there's a lot of overhead

They have added a sequencer which works much more like a traditional non linear editor, only you can compose the shots in real time. Even though modern display technology is somewhat better, safe zones are still a useful tool for composing

That sounds fantastic and I look forward to seeing it hit the market. On the other hand, like you said, the state of the art for off the shelf tools isn't there yet so I think the snarkiness is kind of off putting.

Sure didn't take Facebook long to exert it's walled-garden protectionism on Occulus. VR is a format not a platform. This move by Occulus is really shortsighted.

It's a lot like coding in that: technically you could do everything in a simple text editor, but in reality, there are a plethora of tools and frameworks that you should know and use to do your job effectively. I maintain familiarity

3D scanning is a a great tool, but in addition to manual modeling. The scanned data is a great place to start, but if you want to animate the item, or use it in any sort of realtime or near realtime application you will be replacing ever

There's a lot of optimization that needs done for realtime. For any given asset you may have a pipeline like so: Sculpt hi rez model in Z brush > create low rez model and retopologize (can be a very manual process) > UV unwrap an

Interesting discussions to be had as to why this is the case. I suspect it would make it too easy.

There's nothing wrong with it, the problem is calling it 'trending'. Trending implies that these are the things that the users on facebook are talking about. If the list is, in fact curated by facebook employees then that&#

It isn't meaningless in this case at all. "Trending" suggests that it reflects, so some level, popular opinion about what people are discussing. If the items aren't trending, but are hand curated, then you've essent

I think they do have that right, however, the issue is they SAY the stories are 'trending' when in fact they are simply curated by facebook. That needs to be made clear. Passing off curated content as 'trending' is like

The problem is what facebook says is at odds with what the leaked documents purport to show. Trending items, and hand-curated items are not the same thing, and apparently they have been passing one off as the other which is problematic.

Tech accessories that don't play nicely with established human rules of etiquette have a much harder time being accepted, that's my theory. There's a long established history of reading or writing in public, and smartphones
