I mean, if the only features that get added aren't useful, then isn't that actually worse than being stale? It's an antipattern at that point.

There's nothing in Photoshop since CS2 that I need, and I use it every single week. In fact, with every update they seem to either break something, or make the tool worse. I've use the tool for 20 years. I don't WANT to be fo

I have a question about this - does Sketch/Figma support creating designs that fall outside the current flat design trends? Can it do things like this? https://image.freepik.com/free-vector/hud-ui-gui-futuristic-..

Not only that, but the SaaS model has not netted any 'killer' features at all. I haven't found a new feature indispensable since at least CS2.

Relative to buying software outright, yes, it's a big cost. Any it's also annoying. You don't own the software, which ends up effecting you negatively in a myriad of small ways.

For every freelancer who sits in an Adobe product 40 hours a week, there's many who need an Adobe product for a couple hours every few months. For these people, it's a pretty terrible deal, and feels more alike a tax, or rent-seek

The issue is even more intractable than this. The world accepts that occasionally, a semi truck driver will make a mistake and wipe out a family of 4. Right or wrong, we accept that humans make mistakes. The world will not accept it when a

I'm not sure it's recovering at all, given the fact that SLS is just rummaging around in the Shuttle parts bin try and build a 'new' rocket.

It costs nothing to tell someone: "I'm going to teach you one way of thinking about this, but there are other ways you will learn later".

Took a look at the New Richland Montana one - they are charging you 25,000 for the cost of putting in roads and such. So A: not off grid. and B: not free. Not sure how well researched the article is.

CAD is to organic modeling what an IDE is to MS word. TECHNICALLY they do the same basic thing....but not really at all.

Be careful of burnout, Krita is wonderful, and I think the community would far prefer a slightly slower pace of dev if it means that the lifestyle is sustainable for you.

I agree, Krita is quite good. Out of curiosity, what do you not like about the layering? AFAIK it's pretty similar to PS, no?

Due to the subscription model, the UI is getting actively WORSE as well. You have to push new features to justify a subscription, and most of those seem to be taking the form of useless UI clutter and cruft. There hasn't been a truly v

Price point may be another important factor. 2D Design apps like Photoshop are not as pricy as the 3D counterparts, last time I checked. Hence there's more motivation to find an alternative to Maya, Max for the hobbyist then there is t

I've seen a surprising number of resumes that are listing it come across my desk recently. I don't think it will occupy the same place in the tool stack that say, Linux does for IT, but adoption is definitely on the uptick. I susp

This is true, however, the commercial version bears almost no resemblance to what we have today. The open source community bears the lions share of the responsibility for how blender looks today.

I would say that the realtime viewport (eevee) is now best in class. The rest is heavily dependent on opinion, familiarity and preferred workflow.

I took a cheap MIDI controller and wrote some software to control Photoshop with it so that I can use dials for brush size, zoom, etc. Feels so much more natural.

There's no real comparison between a game engine and a modeling/animation package. They are built to do very different things. However, it is definitely in Epic's best interest to support a robust and freely available tool fo

I was surprised recently to learn that photoshop has an api (albeit poorly documented). I was able to get quite a ways with it and am using it to control photoshop via a hardware MIDI device. Really handy to have physical knobs and buttons

encoding normal-face direction via the polygon winding can help cull out many edge cases before they would even be an issue.

Yep. It's the worst of both worlds right now. Either take it over fully, or devolve it to a pure free market system, with medicaid backstops.
