I'm about to build a feature for my startup that puts a widget on our customers' websites. The fields on their site need to be customizable by them. Sure, I could have a regular SQL table with `fieldname` and `value`, but that table will

Like you, I have no ties with the UCE industry, but here are my guesses regarding this topic. I highly doubt they purge gmail addresses. I still get spam in there. And incremental costs are so minimal to spammers, that why would they both

Counterpoint: well into the 1950s, doctors would routinely endorse cigarettes with menthol because they "cleared up your lungs." Even R.A. Fischer, the man who started modern applied statistics, died in 1962 believing that the conclusions

I understand your counterpoints. And I'd like to thank you for taking the time to research and cite all of this -- I truly had no idea of the private money behind some of this research. However, after further consideration I don't think th

Would this really solve anything? It would reduce the rate of serious hits (and thus concussions). But by what amount? Any time you have men this size, who are this motivated, moving this quickly, you'll have serious injuries. Not to men

I certainly believe that. However, I suspect the game would significantly change if helmets were removed (hypothetically). It would be interesting if I had a time machine, so I could go back and measure the impact of collision in the NFL g

Gotcha, I wasn't aware the game was so significantly different. I think the WSJ article suggests that removing the helmets would force the game to change in this manner. Also very much agreed regarding the linemen situation. It does confli

Perhaps the infrastructure would have been built, but I think you'd be surprised at the amount of basic fundamental research the government does that enables the infrastructure. Most corporations don't do what the US Feds call "R06" resear

I believe your analogy to web developers fails because the purpose of education, at least in how they describe themselves, is presented as something superior to commerce. And yet, all their actions and policies are (becoming more) commerci

As in nearly all performance metrics, your mileage will vary (greatly). At some point I'm sure that the cost of loading external files will outstrip the benefit gained from not having it in memory. You need to test this in your application

I use linode VPS. Similar to the rackspace suggestion. Although it's a VPS, it can resize in under a half hour. So if you have constant scalability requirements (don't need to spin up/down during the day), I love it. I run a friends' sit

My two cents: I don't think much of the modern pseudo-journalism (and journalists) are worth saving. Granted, I don't subscribe to my local paper (the San Diego union is a noted piece of junk), but I can only think of a couple of writers w

I wouldn't spend the money on them. Essentially, you're asking a third party that both of you trust to hold the money for a sizable fee. For previous clients, you've built a relationship with them. Build on that. Stay in good contact. T

Well, item 1 is really a simple thing. I'd just start it as a bookmark, then I'm sure you can find a wrapper that will allow you to push a bookmark into the start menu. Really shouldn't be hard. For item 2, that depends on your product.

You can do this with paypal, you just have to code the integration yourself. Can be as simple as having a form POST different values to the paypal API then redirecting to your site.
