Also the article makes some assumptions on what is a positive experience, based on her own feelings. Actually, having a brief exchange with someone you are attracted to that then fizzles out is not the worst thing in the world. It means the

Ugh, well, if the roles were reversed here and the author were a man speaking for women this article would be derided. I think there's even a word for this, "mansplaining", no? Isn't that exactly what is happening here?

Keeping things simple is so key. For anyone working on a SaaS startup I would strongly encourage you to do the boring CRUD method using Ruby on Rails or Django or whatever the default framework is in your preferred backend language. Don

Ah, interesting. So you could have a RESTful API but your server uses GraphQL for the ORM layer, as you say.

Can you explain what you mean? I think it's contrasted with REST because that's where it's used, in HTTP APIs.

In my opinion the best long-term solution to poverty and mental health (which are often related) is technology. I could quit my job and dedicate my life to being a social worker or to working for charities, and those would be good and noble

Am I horrible person to want higher end trains again (like there used to be)? So I can pay double but have the confidence that my fellow passengers have jobs and families they care about and don't have voices in their head. Does this m

Yes, this. Also, maybe those people who drive so far into offices to sit at a desk all day clicking buttons in a web app... Maybe those people don't need to be driving into an office at all. Or maybe just one day a week. Or, if you can

This is weird. Has Mozilla acquired any startups in the past? Feels weird to me for a browser non-profit to own a web app product.

Progressive enhancement is not about people turning off JavaScript, it's about JavaScript failing, which can happen for a variety of reasons.

"web apps" vs. "websites" isn't a black and white thing. SPA advocates like to say they are building "web apps" as an excuse for providing a shitty user experience. Clearly some things are more app-like (S

I'm not part of the React ecosystem so please excuse my ignorance, but why would adding a library require changing a build? Wouldn't you just npm/yarn install those things and use them?

You support at least 2 syntaxes (JSX and Flow) that AFAIK don't have a proposal to be part of JS.

Picking and choosing language features via babel plugins (many of which will never become part of JavaScript) is an anti-feature. You essentially are creating your own language that only you understand.

On the contrary, you shouldn't feel sad but rather excited. So many people have a false expectation that they must build everything as a SPA, even with all of the glaring UX problems that the SPA model presents. You should be excited b

I know I've spent hours trying to get Ruby setup and figuring our why bundler install failed, so disagree with your "fifteen minutes" comment. Maybe in the best case scenario.

That's right, in the web dev world "legacy codebase" is 3 or 4 years old, created by a previous team who all quit once they finished the rewrite of the previous "legacy codebase".
