Wow, Pony! Pony is one of my favorite young languages. It fits a similar niche that Go fits (not saying that either language can't be used for other purposes), in that they both are great for building cli tools with good concurrency pr

People who say this rarely have tried using a SPA on IE8. As the OP said, you'll provide a better experience giving them a pain ole server rendered app.

Yes, it's another word for source-to-source translation, you are right. It is not, however, cross-compilation, which is what I was responding to. So I'm not sure why you replied to me with this statement. In any event, is it so

Doesn't "cross-compile" mean to compile a binary meant to run on a different platform than the host? Like, compiling a Linux binary on a Mac... If I'm right then that's nothing like what "transpile" means.

Judging based on the 'load' event they are about the same, or the HN version might be a little bit (<100ms) faster. The Sapper version is faster with the service worker. So basically the added complexity gives you the same load

There's a discrepancy if the user doesn't see something when the page first renders but then does see it once the JS runs.

Then you have a server/client difference if the lifecycle hooks change the dom (like a jQuery plugin or something). So you have to figure out what to do on the server.

I think this premise is wrong: > 2. As a corollary, your app's codebase should be universal — write once for server and client This is a mistake a lot of developers make. The server and client are not the same. As far as rendering H

IIRC to even buy that you have to have a home theater. They come to your house and inspect to make sure it meets their standards. So yeah, it's not just the price, it's essentially a status product; meant only for the super-rich t

The idea that Babel -- which I love and think has had an immeasurably positive impact on the front-end community -- is anywhere near as valuable to an individual company as their database is completely out of touch. A database, for many m

You are probably right, but I'm not sure it's rational. Given the correct pricing to compensate for that, they can still make more money that they make today. I believe I read that the average person sees 2 or 3 movies per year at

You have to consider that likely more than 1 person will be watching the movie, so based on average ticket prices they'd be taking a loss (vs. the theater) at only $20. I don't know what the price would be, but my guess would be t

I believe most cinemas do have rules against outside food, yes. You're right that most likely will not check, or even care if they see it, but it's possible (as cmiles74's comment shows) that there could be bag checks at some

I'm sad to hear this honestly, I was hoping for this to fail to hasten studios accepting that straight-to-digital is the future. Charge me $50 per movie to watch them from the comfort of my home, please.

You don't have to personally know someone who does it to see people standing in lines at the concession when you walk in. I don't know how old you are, but at a certain point sneaking things into the theater is something you grow

The csswg is a W3C working group. It's true that there are sometimes breaking changes if usage is low enough. This is true of the W3C specs as much as it is of the WHATWG specs. The advantage to following the WHATWG specs is that it re
