For sure, you can't slash your offering by 90% while keeping the price the same and survive. A business always needs to keep in mind exactly what it is that they are offering their customers. MoviePass offered their customers the abili

I guess I'm alone on this, but I want as little special syntax as possible, it's the primary thing I like about Scheme. ' ` , # <- that's enough, let's stop there. Everything else should be in an s-expression.

How do you deal with having to scroll such a large file? That's the biggest turn-off to literate programming for me. I don't like code files more than a couple hundred lines of code. Search isn't enough for me.

There's an existing project to compile TypeScript to wasm (I haven't used it, not sure about its file size): https://github.com/AssemblyScript/assemblyscript

Yeah, not sure if you caught this before my edit, but I didn't see the release notes that said 500k at first. I didn't realize that webassembly could be gzipped and get that much savings.

You'd add size when you include whatever DOM abstraction you wind up going with, but at the same time you wouldn't need to add much else because the Go stdlib is pretty complete. On the other hand JS developers are adding Lodash a

I would say being 20x larger than the largest JS framework is pretty significant. There's a lot of use-cases that are simply not plausible if you need to wait for 2mb to download. Maybe they can use some DCE to get it smaller, idk. Go

Mocking should only be used for extreme circumstances. This class is very easy to test without mocking. `bar` takes no arguments and has no external dependencies and therefore should always return the same result.

At a certain scale using cloud services at all is too expensive. At a certain scale you write your own databases. You make your own chips.

Some times hype is warranted. Get passed it and look at the actual technology and its value. If you are building a website in 2018 you are doing yourself a disservice manually managing servers.

I wonder about a language like Elixir in the age of serverless. Erlang will always be great at the use-case it was originally written for (and what Whats App uses it for), but that's not the scale that most startups operate in. With se

You can use vdom in web components. This article, that you didn't read, talks about using one.

Arguably siblings needing to communicate is "code smell". Is there a way to restructure so that this isn't needed?

Every time I hear someone say that C# is a well designed language I think of the story of how they had to hack the compiler to get async/await to work, and how F# implemented the same feature as a library. I guess there are different l

Unless you're disputing Node.js' popularity I'm not sure how your anecdote is relevant...

Given the popularity of Node.js, I doubt this. JavaScript is still winning when people have the option to use C# or C++ or Scala or whatever else.

It really depends on what you are doing I guess. Sounds like you enjoy the dev aspect of Docker, which tells me you are doing more that just running a function.

Serverless has nothing to do with frontend vs backend templating. I use Lambda and do server rendered pages. I just don't have to manage the server, it's invisible to me.
