Phone failing is a temporary inconvenience solved by getting a new one. Backups failing mean 15 years of family photo memories forever lost. Risk mitigations should reasonably scale in proportion to the cost of loss.

Cheap, fast, quality. Pick 2. Which one to pick isn’t as linear as the article portrays and it changes over time. You can’t religiously plant yourself in one corner of the triangle forever. Low quality will loose users and eventually also p

Are you saying that editing .sln and .csproj files can be done without tooling? It’s only convenient as long as you stay in visual studio. Not that I would write C# any other way, but the comparison isn’t exactly fair. It’s very easy to cre

I’m sure there are 100 good reasons, just to play with the thought, why not a chain? Like on a motorbike. With all those extra gears, the efficiency should be comparable? Would only work for real wheels of course.

Yes. So much easier to reuse other common helper functions. Once you’ve finished exploration you can just copy the code into production instead of translating.

That’s like saying a roll of dice is deterministic. In theory and under controlled circumstances, yes. In the real world and how people use it, no. The OpenAI docs even mention this, it’s only about consistency. If I encounter a new unkno

”mutates IO”? Anything is better than /{}. I don’t know, maybe one gets accustomed to it after a while? It would be rather verbose to write “returns Foo” everywhere. I’m just looking at this with fresh eyes and this aspect of the langu

No gates = No tracking. Some cities in Germany do this. Instead they do regular ticket inspection with high fines. Makes for much smoother entry and exit to the stations and making the metro feel part of the city.

Why not something human readable? pure vs mut? Other languages already have readable keywords in the function definition; extends, raises, where, having, Optional, and so on. They don’t feel unnecessarily verbose.

You don’t get config drift or “Works on my machine” with docker, compared to scripts on the host.

Don’t tell this guy about Helm-charts. Oboy, if you thought docker images overriding default configuration options was bad. Wait until you add yet another layer of new config parameters on top, that do absolutely nothing at all, just transl

Not my downvotes but this is factually incorrect. A LLM will give you the highest likely suggestion. If that happens to be a DROP, it will not stop. Now that is of course going to be extremely unlikely in your example. What is more likely t

The fact that seasoned developers have to discuss how to write 1+1 correctly, says everything you need to know about the language.

Wasted lines is a syntax sugar problem. It can be solved in the language level. Python for example has dict destructuring where you can solve this in under 10 characters. You could also imagine wrapper functions to execv taking in modificat

That's more a technicality of the carrier. There's nothing lost in the value, you just have to replace them with newer version. Any sane country would do this if old bills turn out to be easily forged.

Doesn’t necessarily have to be the host language. Just any other existing language. If it’s static and declarative, just use yaml. (Yes it sucks, but you get it point) If it’s imperative, just use the host language. Then you have some hyb

C compilers are funny on this one, because instead of warning you about code that don’t do anything, they take advantage of it, in the form of UB optimizations. Like you say, macros often make this very hard to enforce in practice.
