A point I can't help repeat: the US already has greater public healthcare spending than almost all countries that have universal public healthcare [1]. To fix the damn system: Step 1. Decide on an amount you want to spend on public h

Attacking a railroad has been trivially easy for decades and yet so few people do it. It's shocking how non-destructive 99.999% of humans are.

I suspect it'd depend entirely on whether facebook costs everybody $1000/year, or just them . If facebook costed everybody $1000/year, I would definitely stop using it, because the network would be immediately broken sin

I find this difficult to watch. The only thing that would make this less difficult for me to watch is if he had his personal fortune invested in his hedge fund also, and so was similarly wiped out. In which case I'd like to hear it. Ot

When you try to do something ambitious, generally you spend the vast majority of the time as a stumbling amateur who is totally confused about the right thing to do. If you don't accept this is what you are, then the day that reality s

Improving yourself is only painful if you lack humility. If you have an honest and realistic idea of how ordinary you currently are, and honest and realistic idea of what you can actually achieve in 5 years, then the gradual self-improvemen

The strongest correlations seem related to the wealth of the country. One reading of this finding is that more effort is directed toward gender performance in rich countries. This could be due to a number of factors. I wouldn't discoun

Huh, I never realized this was this simple. Fleshing out the general case the post mentions. Suppose p=x^n-1 is prime. Note that: x^n - 1 = (x^n + x^(n-1) +... + x^2 + x) -( x^(n-1) +... + x^2 + x +1) =>x^n-1 =

I think the way the trick is done is he essentially has a healed piercing all the way through his arm. So he only had to go through the pain once and can now do the trick whenever he likes so long as he keeps the piercing open.
