Funnily enough, I feel like Gareth Davies, the presumably semi-amateur player in the video set, is the only one who really gets the piano, and focuses on those unusually melodic bass notes.

A lot of people will say exercise and nature, which is definitely a good prescription. If you've got a great job, then it's best to do those as a hobby, but if you don't have a great job and you don't have a tonne of res

The parent is correct, and shouldn't be downvoted IMO. If you set the max payout to world gdp of ~$100 trillion, you get an expected value of ~$50 for the game. So people are actually calculating expected value correctly with their i

I think it's strange to call someone "entitled" whose back-up plan if their start up fails is to work in a tire store. Entitled people's plans don't include tire stores.

Would you pay $30/month to level up your game? Because for me this site is premised on the fact that the people willing to pay that already know the basic strat needed to digest this site.

This is great, and I would ignore the people who complain about the UX being too difficult. The most profitable customer is people buying in frequently to online tournaments, for whom this all makes complete sense. The regular casual low-mi

FYI: The author is Tim Kreider, who wrote "Lazy, A Manifesto" years before the pandemic (which is actually an interesting little book). So little has changed in his attitude due to the pandemic. I just think that's kind of re

Idk, I disable my friend count on facebook. I have 600, so not shame worthy, just fairly average. It's just unnecessary information. I think many like to the ability to not be "looked down on" by the >2000 crowd, and not &

How exactly does this mechanic work? If I hide likes on one of my posts, can no-one who views it see like count? Does this mean the liker's are also hidden? Or is the information about the number of likes just one more click away for t

Thank you so much, I thought Qt and Electron were the two front runners for this, but just wanted to check I wasn't missing something everyone knew about.

If I had to guess, I would guess these would often be "fierce nerds" who mellowed with age. I think this "fierceness" is an expected sign of intellectual dominance of your peers at 15-20. At 25+, it's a sign that yo

Oh don't you know that acts of free will only take place in the subset of chains of cause and effect that can be traced to the (decoherence-induced) collapse of a quantum state, and also just happen to turn out to be perfectly rand

I mean, free will isn't to be believed. But if you wanna, be my guest. If quantum mechanics is to be believed, then the model is certainly probabilistic at best, so you'll have enough wiggle room for it.

I really like this take, but on a weird philosophical way I gotta disagree. The surface of the earth has by a long shot the most difficult physics in the universe we know about. Try to imagine a model that predicts the things going on ther

Kiwi here. In NZ, a doctor is assumed to be a medical doctor without other context. And calling yourself a doctor when you're not a medical doctor gets you mocked, unless the context makes it clear you mean academic doctor-- as in, you

Funnily enough, even with my own code made for running calculations only I will ever care about, I don't feel like a program is really complete until I've made myself a lame little GUI to drive it. The problem is always the same.

It strikes me as bizarre that something as old and as important as git is to the general version control problem, doesn't have a beautiful, complete and helpful user interface. With the status quo how it is, I definitely love articles

It seems to me like this is only true if you assume space is perfectly transparent, which seems like by far the weakest assumption. Introducing any tiny amount of absorption in space would fix this, even in an infinite size, infinitely old
