Carmack's been pushing companies like this for nearly two decades. In particular, he has been a significant force in the evolution of the video card industry. The hardware companies know and respect him. If anyone can do it, he can.

Not sure, but you might want to check out a Markdown based static site generator. A popular one is Jekyll, which is also used by Github (it's written by one of Github's founders). No database required. EDIT: evmar answered the question befo

It's anyone's guess how successful W8 will be in the long run. Windows market share on the PC is still nearly 90%. The big question is, how will it do in the tablet market? If you look at the WP7 case, it's not promising. Even after nearly

I would take their employment contract to a lawyer and have them look at it. In my experience, they either want everything, or they allow you a certain amount of autonomy. In the latter case, it often boils down to time and equipment. If yo

The difference between the two environments, at least on the desktop, is jarring. As the author points out, on the Metro side, the desktop is just another tile. Strange. And on the desktop side, they've removed the start button, so the task

It's not a question of familiarity, it's that git doesn't play nice on Windows. It requires a POSIX emulation environment, like cygwin, which is a second class experience. Compare this with Mercurial, which runs great from the command line

No, it's not. One thing MS has always done well is backward compatibility. You can still run DOS programs from the 80s on Windows 8 (x86+64). In order to be competitive on ARM, however, they had to massively strip down Windows. They made a

I've just gone through that same evaluation process. I actually had the exact opposite criterion: I wanted a game engine with source. I considered commercial engines but they almost never come with source or have exorbitant licensing or cos

Agreed. Getting authentication right when hosting your API on a different subdomain is difficult. You can write an HTTP handler to implement CORS but it's less than optimal if you also want to support Ajax within your app, in addition to no

The author left out the most important part, which is the controller. The HTTP methods match controller verbs without requiring any attribute markup. The Get method responds to /controller (all) or /controller/5 (ID of 5), the Post method r

This is great news. Seizure laws are terrible. The ability of a government to destroy a business without due process should not be permitted (especially a foreign government). It's unfortunate that the ruling is based on a technicality.

I was going to make this point as well. The corollary is that, to overcome the implicit bias against the unknowns, your first success must be a genuinely great or useful idea. The unknowns who became the knowns often had a breakout success

This article is focused on practice and growth. There's a distinction between the work required for improvement and the state required for productivity. To me, flow is more about productivity.

This is an interesting idea but it would have several problems in practice. In particular, it lumps the 'low end' earners of the top 1%--those earning $330,000 per year--in with those earning millions. This would create a significant drag o

This is a pretty simple fix in CSS using font face fallbacks. Here's a typical example: font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif Maybe pg or friends will update it.
