I imagine that the whistleblowers get paid from the proceeds of fines levied due to the whistleblowing.

Further I think these are things that are generally harder to decentralize. I'm not sure how much marginal value there is doing so.

Paradoxically, sometimes the only way you can get enough information to make the "right" choice is to make a choice in the first place. If it isn't a one-time choice, the downside is generally minimal.

Your assertion is essentially that an example of reading and writing from/to a file descriptor shows all needed for all aspects of a networked application. I think that is absurd. And unless you have a multithreaded multiuser shell t

Your still missing the point. It's not that it was possible to do so. It's that you could quickly write web services idomatically that did so by default. Your example shows a simple hello world and doesn't speak to the poi

Some trains are very automated. And there is autopilot/autolanding for jets, BUT the pilot has to engage them, and they can't be used in all circumstances. That is to say that they are about as automated as the Tesla Autopilot.

Yes, you could potentially "solve the problem." Unless there is a test or a treatment that is easy and effictive enough to use empirically it is much harder to diagnose that person. Physicians have to balance quality of life impr

Maven/Ivy/SBT/Gradle/etc. Are a lot older than NPM. They solved a problem that wasn't well solved before. They're certainly not perfect, but I'm not sure NPM would be where it is today if we as develope

There are a couple of reasons to actively prevent autofill passwords. The only one I have seen for login autofill prevention is when the password is actually a generated token (ala yubikey, etc) and a password manager won't do the rig

I'm not sure there is a great way to really measure this type of data. Granted I don't think Alexa is a good point to argue if something is top 3 or top 5. It at leasts provides some sort of indication of overall measurement er

I don't think that was the implication. The original post just said that the democrats and independents split the vote (spoiler effect). There was no implication as to which was the spoiler.

It lasts as about the same. You can get the UHT most places i've been to, but it is not particular popular. The problem is more about purchasable quantity. 1/2 gallon (~2 liters) is the smallest "normal" size for Mi

I think the methodology here is off. It may not be that People in Florida and Alabama are looking for abortion prices. It could be people in Georgia price shopping neighboring states, then looking for taxis to get across the border.

I am saying that these aren't the best numbers we have. They just aren't sufficient to make absolute conclusions from. If all accidents happen while turning and autopilot never turns then autopilot would never make driving safe

You'd really have to look at the number of accidents per mile where people were driving in a single lane on the highway, not the overall number of traffic accidents.

The actual problem is that autopilot doesn't remove the driver from the situation enough. It gives people the illusion that they can hand off driving to the computer, but in reality they still need to be doing 90% of what they would b

Compound words are common too in English. They're really just treated as new words, there isn't a real reason to syntactically split them. German does have some more comical examples though. My favorite was an archaic german bo

This was my understanding too. All parts of the world pay a "Licensing Fee" to the Irish company worth almost all of the profit on the good/service, and now all income is made in Ireland.
