I think you're ignoring payroll tax and public subsidy of private sector by allowing them to hire people at below subsistence (because medicaid and food stamps are a subsidy to Walmart)

Yes, and indeed with this system a theorist can look for interesting data out there and publish with attribution, while experimenters can look for interesting failures and home methodology.

I think that a very stringent threshold for p values (it's going to be a lot harder to get to p < 0.005 than p < 0.05 and it's going to encourage a lot more gaming of the system) is not the solution. At best, it will lead

UX is the bane of usability (at least as practiced). E.g. We've had professional "UX" designers seriously contend that "cancel" buttons should be made to not look like buttons. The joke at a certain large company wa

I think it's healthy to be skeptical of people claiming to be solving a more general problem than the actual problem at hand (which is a large fraction of the advice in this article). Unfortunately, a non-technical manager trying to

I think you've mostly answered your own question. To some extent, Amazon presumably creates new sales (and hence new jobs in production) but this is almost certainly offset by the jobs it destroys (middlemen of various kinds). AWS migh

This is a fun (and classic) thread and it's worth reading the pro and con arguments. It really falls under the old joke "you have a problem and you decide to solve it with regex, now you have two problems". HTML is very gnarl

My first problem with Flutter is that it doesn't unify web and native development, so it fails to solve the big problem immediately. If you can deliver web and mobile from the same codebase, you can deal with the "long tail"

Isn't this a little like Madoff being vital to Madoff Securities? Uber's insane market cap is a direct consequence of a whole bunch of unethical, illegal, and barely legal activities.
