Agreed, contenteditable is terrible in Safari for iOS. Pages actually uses SVG for most of its layout. It makes me suspect that Apple has an XCode back end for compiling Cocoa/IB code to Javascript.

I've done a ton of work with contenteditable and it's not especially good on IE (it was especially bad on IE up to IE8) nor especially bad on Safari (it's kind of horrible, but it's horrible everywhere).

Seems like a weirdly anti-Safari summary, including assumptions about "future Safari" being inferior to "future IE".

Setting aside Facebook -- Apple, Microsoft, and Google were all technically impressive early on -- it's as a business that they were kind of pathetic. It's easy to think of similarly technically impressive products that never tu

You should look into some of the stuff MS did in the glory years, such as deliberately breaking rival software from Lotus, Borland, and Apple.

Starting with 3rd edition, two-classing is completely nerfed. Multi-classing is the norm (each time you go up a level you pick a class to level in) but unless you pick highly compatible classes you just create a basket case.

I'm pretty skeptical about the Apple Car rumor (Jean-Louis Gassee wrote a nice debunking piece http://www.mondaynote.com/2015/02/15/the-fantastic-apple-car... ), but when the NY Times suggests that Apple

Actually the high end fights now are, in general, far more technical than they were in vanilla WoW (BWL, AQ40, Nax). They just offer dumbed down versions ("LFR") for the masses -- which is fair enough. Everyone pays for the conten

One of the things I liked about BG was that it faithfully implemented all kinds of loopholes in the AD&D rules (which have since been "balanced" more-or-less out of existence). E.g. the optimal way to create magic users was as

Good luck! I released an indie game in 1994. Three of us worked on it and two of us had high pressure jobs by the time it shipped (we'd worked on the bulk of the game in easier times). For its time, the game was pretty successful but i

How meaningless valuation figures can be . Apple's stock is pretty liquid and its revenue and profits suggest its market cap is, if anything, conservative.

Why don't the people with this point of view rail against proprietary fonts the way they do against video codecs? If we took the same approach to fonts then you'd only be allowed to use open source fonts and everything would look

Basically, do it the way Spivak does. Funny thing is in freshman year we were taught to do just that, but then abandoned the formality pretty much immediately after.

I wonder if this is true. I suspect it's a bit like comparing Hollywood movies from today to 1950 — far better production quality, but script writing that's no better and possibly worse.

Most people probably used the record feature on their cassette players and the cost of simply including it in every device may well have been lower than the cost of two production lines. Incidentally, for five years or so the Amiga was a gr
