Right, but you do have a choice what's displayed on the landing page, and even what default objects the user is given to play with. It pays to select them well because ugly stuff can drive potential users away. You need to show people

Have you actually used it? On the Macbook, Force Touch is totally intuitive -- it's like using a normal trackpad. It's actually quite eery. So I don't think "touching too much" is going to be an issue, any more than

Do you mean 10 bits per channel? (i.e. 30-bit RGB.) The 10" retina iPads have routinely scored very well as 24-bit displays (not the best there are, but certainly they seem acceptable to a lot of professional photographers).

tvOS seems to support seamless transitions of apps across iOS devices (they mentioned it in a game context) so it may prove to be much better than that -- e.g. watch a show on Hulu, walk into room and hand the app over to the TV and so fort

OK: I expect GTAV will run just fine on the new hardware -- the A8 will crush the PS3 hardware. Obviously it won't run the remaster for the newer hardware, but really who cares? The old PS2 GTA titles had to be remastered for the iPh

Just my opinion of course but this is very bad for the consoles. Apple comes in with a stupidly huge and competitive developer community and everyone in their target audience already has access to plenty of controllers (iOS devices). I imag

You're confusing modes with discoverability. Force touch isn't a mode but it is invisible if you don't know it's there. Jobs wanted discoverable, modeless user interfaces where possible (and he was right). Both the watch

Well, first of all Apple could do it and fail. They're done that before. They're confident/arrogant/audacious enough to try things that they can't pull off. Also, they could take a two-pronged approach -- cherry-pic

Very insightful little post. In theory Apple could start evolving their ISA over time alongside everything else because LLVM gives them an abstraction layer. (Everyone else could do this too of course.)

I learned two things I did not know about Ada Lovelace: she had three children and, even allowing for flattery the artist, was quite beautiful. And not lacking in self-confidence, either.

It's not pointless but we can tell for certain that some things had a certain direct impact. It's very hard to claim that the psychological impact of nuclear weapons was X as a matter of fact, and it's nothing at all like the

I think the answer is "appear to be the person they want to hire" with the extra degree of difficulty being you don't know the person they want to hire. On the other hand, who wants to be hired under false pretenses? Not I.

For 2014 I see 230M tablets, 170M laptops, and recall that Apple is #4 in laptops as well. I think your figures are very shaky. In any event, Yegge's prediction is -- pretty shockingly -- in the ballpark. (Also bear in mind that most n

Good point re android tablets (and add chromebooks). But you are way off in your figures. In 2014 tablets outsold laptops 1.5 to 1. Apple sold 12M iPads in q4 2014. And tablets replace laptops for many people. Most people just do Facebook,
