I have installed mint recently, dual boot with windows. I mostly like it, but it does have one major downside.. the 4k font scaling is terrible compared to windows. When I adjust font scaling on windows it only modifies font size. When I

Author never stated what the current noise level is, but in my experience when I'm in the middle of nowhere and a jet passes over at cruising altitude, I pretty much can't hear it If this changes it so that this is no longer true

They became hyper focused on race, which I don't have much interest in, so also lost me. Also the reporting seemed more and more biased, I stick with apnews now.

There are already techniques for removing the repeating textures(sometimes this is called texture bombing). Maybe this can be used to improve them, but only if it can be cheaply calculated on the fly.

Isn't wide BVH how embree works, 1 ray vs SIMD width boxes.. maybe Nvidia is simply doing the same thing but with the wider GPU SIMD(32 I believe).

Well a good start would be to cease logging of all redwoods, they take over a thousand years to reach steady state, and will continue sucking down carbon over that time(and the the larger the redwood the faster its absolute volume increase

I told it to generate a VS solution to see what build settings it had applied.. and it is set up very poorly, not surprising performance is ass. This is release settings: intrinsics = off SIMD = off whole program optimizations = off

This was measuring a full build, but in the real world what matters most is incremental builds.. where MSVC performs very well since it has incremental linking & compiling. Also who even knows what this build was doing as it used CMake

None of those are 'issues' for me. The language isn't perfect but the Carbon approach seems to not solve any meaningful issues.

No they don't, you are thinking of older implementations(the old checked iterators _ITERATOR_DEBUG_LEVEL etc in msvc). That shit was indeed very slow. You can run release builds with _CONTAINER_DEBUG_LEVEL =1 and the performance impac

The pop_back() error would have been caught easily by an experienced C++ dev as common sense says run with assertions enabled in dev builds(With MSVC use _CONTAINER_DEBUG_LEVEL =1). The other error was just dumb using a C function when a g

30 seconds isn't incremental, that is way too long. I work on a large'ish C++ project and incremental is generally 1-2 seconds. Incremental must work in release builds(someone else said it only works in debug for Rust), although

Go isn't a competitor to C or C++. I don't know where that idea even comes from. Go is competing with Java and web languages. Rust is the only real competitor, but given the sheer amount of existing C and C++ code, the idea that t
