The use after move existed prior, just wasn't moving even though they had written move. It is also written in a way that a linter should be able to detect if you disallow use after move. https://source.chromium.org/chr

Um no. When I upgraded it was a few hours of work at most, for Google since its code base is extremely large maybe a few days to weeks.

Your vectors are local to the function, so not the same thing, trivial for compiler to know they aren't aliased.

1 minute is crazy, is this is a small project? Last time I used unreal(years ago) it was similar, but I figured they would have improved that by now..

My experience with the fixed version was not like this, it worked very well, and this is in a location with huge trees in all directions(redwoods).

They might want to add some motivation for this, I have no clue why they are obsessing over how copying works, aren't there more important things to focus on?

Slowdown/overheating are not inherit to AVX512, they are specific to older implementations. And no the GPU is not a replacement, the latency difference between GPU and AVX512 is off the charts.

I am also confused how he became so popular, he seems pretty uninformed, my best guess is that his suit fools people into thinking that he must know what he is doing.

When I lived in Chicago, biking was the fastest way to get around by far. Chicago has "good" public transport by US standards and it is still dog ass slow & often very crowded and unpleasant.

Because the code in question isn't something a C++ dev would write, instead it looks like something someone who doesn't use the language much if at all, decided to use for this pretty silly comparison. It would be one thing if th

This would be a better article if the UB in the C++ example wasn't blindingly obvious-- no C++ programmer worth a damn would ever write this.

Its 5 extra characters actually.. because any sensible C++ project has i32 etc defined. The type omission version isn't very useful, as this type of code is difficult to read later. Generally end up regretting using auto, and end up co

Falsely representing the state of C & C++ doesn't really lead to a convincing argument. All those safety checks Zig supports are easily enabled in C++, and widely used. Sometimes they are even on by default.

I see kids wandering around my neighborhood by themself or in groups all the time, and where I grew up(rural CA), I roamed 5-15 miles away from home regularly on a bike or 4-wheeler.

That defeats most of what this article is talking about--hiding the perceived latency. In addition to the other issues like higher server cpu & bandwidth requirements, and poor video quality.

They are similar but not the same, for instance SSE has movemask, but NEON does not, so it gets emulated(slowly) when targeting that platform. The cross lane ops are different enough that you might need to rewrite for other platforms. And

Debug symbols are stored locally with MSVC, and booting into debug mode only takes a few seconds longer than non-debug, sounds like you are doing something wrong.
