They run linux and use Vulkan for rendering, so this is a potentially large port burden to force on devs.

The paper covers the reasons, and they aren't new or specific to Intel. There was a talk by Andrew Lauritzen basically saying the same thing a few years back. https://www.ea.com/seed/news/seed-siggraph2017-co

I use signal and ~like it, but I do wish it didn't require a phone #, and tie everything to that #, when I switched phones I had to make a new signal account & make new group chat rooms. Also signal needs group video chats.. I

I think you are correct in so far as if you read many of his stories it does seem that he uses the same narrative style over and over-- I thought his short stories were okay but I wouldn't recommend them to people, mostly for similar

That was a good article, Wolfe has been my favorite author for years, so it was interesting to read a little about his life. Book of the New Sun is obviously his top work, but he had some other stuff that as really damn good such as his tw

I visited the UK and the first thing I noticed when I was walking around the cities and towns as how much they stunk of diesel. Air quality made even the worst of US cities look good..

I have never found Unit tests particularly useful outside of constrained situations where you have predictable input and output and a initial state that easily reached. Getting a game(or engine) into a particular initial state so you can m

That isn't really true, Unreal uses assertions heavily, see https://docs.unrealengine.com/en-US/ProgrammingAndScripting/... Unit tests etc aren't that useful in games so no you won't find much of t

Looks like an unusable mess for C++, this seems to be common problem with all of these crypto libraries-- just too many files and too complex of a build system(shocker not everyone uses CMake).

The updated benchmark is about what I'd expect, they have similar top end SIMD capabilities given that both are effectively able to compute 512 bits of SIMD per cycle. Intel: 2x256 = 512 M1: 4x128 = 512 I'd expect Zen3 would beat

They probably are FMA ports, but they didn't say that anywhere in the article, and it still doesn't explain the "quadruple the throughput", as both of Intels ports are FMA and 2/4 of AMDs are FMA.

For SIMD it is fairly easily to predict the range of performance of an optimized kernel just based on looking at the micro architecture. M1 = 4x128 Zen3 = 4x256 Intel = can't make up its mind some are 2x256, others 2x512, and some oth

The article is phrased confusingly, at one point saying there are 4 pipelines, and then saying it can do 4 FADDs and 4 FMULs(for a total of 8) per cycle. So are there 4 or 8?? I believe what they meant to say was 4 FADDs OR 4 FMULs. Then

C++ does have something along the lines of Rust traits now, it is called concepts and was added in C++ 20. Mind you it probably has very little real world usage right now.. Concepts aren't as powerful as Rust traits in that they are s
