You came so close. You realized that stopping at the first error is bad and you should continue. But then you still discard the entire deserialization when there's even a single error. You only needed one more step to realize that it m

I'm not OP but I imagine they might be thinking that Trump will find a way to punish it, with him being a fascist and all. Just imagine you'd had done this with Hitler in 1932. By 1934 your life would basically be over.

> ChatGPT is available for free - you can find out for yourself! ChatGPT changes a lot. Somebody reading this comment thread in a year or five might well be interested in the answer but can't test it for themselves anymore.

It's because when you're working for an employer, you're doing what someone else wants. Living my life means doing what I want.

I've actually been wondering what platform(s) people would flock to if YouTube were to suddenly disappear. Vimeo? DailyMotion? Or even... PeerTube??...

I agree, but I think such a project is just not realistic anymore. If you make it publicly editable (like a wiki) it'll just be full of spam, and if you don't, then you need swathes of human editors. And then you get into endless

LLMs (or other AIs) of the future may well get better than humans at reading badly written documentation, filling in gaps by cross-referencing multiple sources, or learning APIs entirely from reading uncommented source code...

I think it's the difference between working with ChatGPT versus playing with ChatGPT. The article only describes the “work” use-case: you're trying to use it to get stuff done, so your constraints are fixed going in. But I thi

I have memories of asking adults how many planets in the universe we know of at a time when the answer was 10 because we had just discovered the first exoplanet (and Pluto was still considered a planet) and laughing when they would give ans

I absolutely despise anything moving or blinking on websites when it's not in response to my own command. I usually immediately close tabs that do it. If I absolutely need to read a website, I will first use the inspector to nuke the e

That would be brilliant. I notice that in math/programming videos it will often just say “using a mathematical trick/concept” or “using bit manipulation” when it could just include the actual formula/equation. It would be nic

I've always hated that it's called an “inverse”. It's not an inverse. The inverse of square root is square. If they had called it “reciprocal”, it would have been clear to me what it does, but “inverse” confused the hell out

Right, but neither irony nor hypocrisy means that it's wrong. Murder is wrong and if a murderer on death row says that murder is wrong they are still correct.

This seems like a bug to me. Even if the previous commit is “mangled” as they call it, there's no reason why you can't diff against it and only send the diff.

What the blogosphere needs is a “recommendations” page. Like the front page of YouTube but for blog posts (and not ad-revenue-driven). Where you can (quietly and privately) upvote and downvote and it'll adapt to your interests.

There’s no reason to say that “ca(t:d)og” is a “more correct” parsing than “(cat):(dog)”. You did hit the nail on the head insofar as that you realized that we as programmers have built strong habits and make assumptions on the basis of tho

Um. The German word is Diminutiv. Were you thinking of „Verkleinerungsform“? Do people still use those Germanized terms? It feels a little old-fashioned to me, like saying „besitzanzeigendes Fürwort“ instead of Possessivpronomen.
