I had to stop using it because of that. And I started to think of re-writing it as a self-hosted solution to hopefully avoid IP bans. I don't know if you'd consider releasing it for anyone to install on their own server, and if pg would be

Though, in my case, I'm still working on establishing my professional authority on Twitter… :) As a matter of fact my number of Facebook friends and Twitter followers are dangerously close.

I see what you mean. My personal "solution" is that I typically share personal stuff exclusively on Facebook (non-public posts) and what is more "technical" (comments or questions on tech, products, etc.) on Twitter. (and HN) For example, I

I think that the part where entering your info into Facebook appears less like shit work is that it's typically factual and structured: I worked there, I studied here, these people are family members. Google +'s circles are completely up-to

I am always surprised by the number of startups who do get a short domain name: Path, Yelp, Stripe, Color (infamously so), Fab, etc., often times right from the start. (NB: Dropbox got dropbox.com pretty late) Sure if you have a couple of m

Oh I see. I didn't understand until I clicked the link at the top that the different criteria, and thus the images, were not from pg. I was a bit surprised that Viaweb ended up all green, but it wasn't pg's choice, just yours, correct? :) I

I'm curious: how can this be from 2006 when Stack Overflow was (according to Wikipedia at least) launched in 2008? I checked because it didn't feel that old.

pg tweeted about it earlier today ( http://twitter.com/#!/paulg/status/130786466128334848 ), so I thought it was actually related to YC. At least, I guess he doesn't mind.

I imagine that such extensions would create an image on the fly for you to scan with your phone? If so, the big problem I see with that is that you have to pull out your phone right there and then. I personally use "Site to Phone" ( http://

Good point about laundry detergent. I remember in particular Procter&Gamble who was marketing Ariel and Vizir at the same time (in France). Similar packaging, same base product, similar pricing. One thing I remember now is that they had

I'm currently trying to decide between two names and tried a little AdWords campaign to see if there was a significant difference in click-through rate just based on the name. (result so far: there's a little one but not huge) I started to

Mirroring is actually not what I want from Airplay. I think Apple made a mistake by calling it that. Yes you can mirror your whole screen, which is interesting, but the really cool thing is when you do what you're describing (see my other

I completely agree with him on AirPlay's potential. When AirPlay came out, I was thinking that it would be great to take advantage of it outside plain audio and video. I figured, if CPU allowed, it'd be possible to create a video stream on-

Actually, Gmail does something close to that. When you click "Report as spam", if it detects it's a mailing list, it offers to (try to) unsubscribe properly: http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/unsubscribing-made-eas... It's a bit stran

I've seen that kind of nomenclature only on sites like Monster or Salary.com and I've always felt similar as your comment: where do these come from? How come I was never told about it? How come my positions were never classified like this?

I agree with Marco: currently our only way to watch TV is with an AppleTV and it's been pretty great. It could be improved but it's much better than when we had cable, and I don't think Apple would allow being mixed with the cable experienc

Good idea. Though I don't have Siri so I have no use for it at the time… It feels that it should work like http://ifttt.com with recipes and pre-defined actions rather than having to code and host each webhook manually. The difficult thin

I agree that the name is not easy but the good news is that you can call it whatever you want since Siri just sends a text to the contact you're telling it to, and you can call the Ixoth contact something easier to pronounce.

I'm not sure who's in charge of Mac software. It used to be Bertrand Serlet until he left last March. I'm not sure why he hasn't been replaced, at least from an outside perspective (no one is shown as in charge of Mac on the page you link

That's a good point. Jonathan Ive is in charge of Industrial Design and when you hear him, he's talking as a designer. On the software side, we don't really hear so much about the UI/UX design process the same way we do on the hardware side
