Can you elaborate? What sounds like a wound? What is emerald, what is compiz and how does this all related to window borders?

I despise systemd. Having shell scripts that you can read and edit makes so much more sense. Putting a script in a directory to have it run at startup makes sense. Systemd's approach of "registering a service" is hell. Having

Instead of taking away power from users, Firefox should rather inform users. Let them modify the browser in any way they want. Let them write plugins that can do anything . But inform users who install a third party plugin what that plug

That would take years. I use Debian Stable. I think Plasma has something like "Decorations" - can a custom decoration be used? Can one use scripts in the "Decorations"?

This is something I have been missing in KDE for a long time! How does one use it? Is it a script I can put somewhere on my laptop and then the borders will have outlines?

Does not work for me because it somehow prevents reader mode in Firefox.

The interface could be just like Twitter or Hacker News. In fact, users could use any service they like. It would not matter what client you use to reply to me. Your reply would appear on Hacker News, because HN would follow the protocol an

A replacement could be just a protocol. If you signed your message with "This is a reply to msg 33398198 by Timja. Signed: twblalock", then nobody could take this converstion away from us again. I could copy it and put it on any s

Twitter is the only platform I know where you can search for people who share your interests and then connect with them. The whole #buildinpublic community is just insanely great. Everybody is building something. Everybody is having similar

What surprises me is that Amazon's market cap is back to a pre-covid level. The market things the whole Covid thing after all did not boost the value of Amazon? And neither does all the newly printed money? During Covid, the monetary

Interesting that https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33360234 is considered to put other people's work down. I asked about some terms and if they are common among the HN crowd. Ako replied that people who are doing en

Thanks for the explanations! I get kind of a "no code" vibe from it? When I want to read data from an API, transform it and put it into a DB, my approach would be to write a few lines of Python. A script that does an http request

Javascript being 41x faster than Python seems a bit excessive. In my experience, having done quite a lot of dynamic language benchmarks, Javascript is about as fast as PHP and both are about 6x faster than Python. Has someone looked at the

Depends on how the broken program writes to the log. If it does while true; do echo hello >> bad.log; done Then renaming bad.log will not solve the challenge.

The idea that Bitcoin "needs" a lot of energy is also a misconception. How much resources are used to produce something is determined by the value of that something. At the moment, about $6B worth of Bitcoin is mined per year. So

It is surprising that in 2022 this is still a popular misconception, even on a site like Hacker News. The amount of transactions the Bitcoin blockchain handles does not impact how many transactions can be done in Bitcoin via higher layers l

Plus sandboxing. By running software in a container, I know my machine is pretty nicely shielded from malice, incompetence and carelessness on the side of the developer.

Starting a title with a "<" sign seems pretty confusing to me. And dropping the "after recovery" goes astray from the central point of the article. That we are mistaken when we think that people have recovered.

Your dropped the "after recovery". Which I think is the central point of the article. That even when we consider people to have recovered, the majority still has symptoms.

Are you sure? Have you tried? When I try, I don't get the nice behavior of tables, but a stiff layout that does not adapt to its content. Instead the content overflows the rows: https://jsfiddle.net/3hfosn5k/ The
