Indeed, there's also a whole world of B2B software which you may be almost entirely unaware of if you've spent your whole career in consumer-facing web/app development.

"Sherlocking" can be unfortunate for a developer, but it's odd to view it as an inherently bad thing. A package manager is a core OS feature, even Microsoft has WinGet now.

I totally sympathize with not wanting to work on something that has become neither financially nor personally rewarding. I think the "early access" subscription model is a good, fair one, and I hope it succeeds. > I also always

I think the most post-launch coverage they got was when Apple released that universally scorned immersive video of MLS highlights, months late and edited like a traditional TV highlight reel. If they were just releasing more good video (p

Limonene is already pretty commonly measured. It's exciting to finally have real studies like this which can guide breeding choices.

Every language is built on a mountain of cultural context and assumptions. That's the part which is impossible to translate. You can translate the words but you're missing layers upon layers of subtle meaning.

I have absolutely seen Copilot generate valid C# code with a nasty logic bug. You really need to carefully review every line, and at that point I would usually rather just write it myself. I'm sure there are good use cases, but I just

This is broadly consistent with the prevailing theory that the Voynich Manuscript was made as a pseudo-occult/alchemical book. I don't think there are any real secrets to be uncovered, but this is interesting research about what s

It's really crazy that ATC isn't 99% computerized. It's exactly the kind of problem which is trivial for a computer program with all the necessary information, but incredibly stressful for a human.

I like Rust and Go, but I haven't seen any data which suggests widespread adoption in the "software industry" at large. Python is bigger than ever, C# is huge, C and C++ have many many years ahead even as newer languages slow
