I wonder if she tried GLS Bank? They style themselves as a fair/alternative bank only investing in ethically good things. Lot's of people I know moved their bank account there. It would be interesting to hear if they reject to giv

Thanks! I'd say that Germany is still pretty safe, but I admit that there are places that even I as a German feel uneasy about - mostly the rural areas in former East German states. Also the way asylum seekers are treated here seems pr

Do you have a citation for the 100 deaths? The number seems rather high - from the three events you cite there were "only" five deaths (killed in a fire).

You'll find such people in every country, I don't think it proves anything about the general sentiment of the population.

I'd say doing science requires a specific mindset. Using amount of knowledge as a criterion seems wrong - how did the first scientists come about, presumably they didn't know anything at all yet?

I think the Spiegel did an article on Ludum Dare a couple of days ago, so they were already aware of it and had writers watching it. This game just seems very original and went viral quickly, so it was something worthy to write about. I don

Can you get a micro-sd card that is several times as big as 64GB? Or is the concept to keep a pile of sd-cards with all your data on it? I guess it is conceivable, but why would anybody want that?

But then what do you want? Isn't there a technical limit to how much local storage a phone can have? Syncing to some external disk seems unavoidable?

I don't understand why "no removable storage" implies that you'd have to use a cloud provider? Why not just use the fixed internal storage?

Really overly dramatic. Just because they are nice enough to say "use of the machine is optional", you are not losing your rights if eventually you have to pass through. What if they had never put that option on display to begin w

I must admit the questions of the JetBlue assistant also made me wonder how often they have problems with religious fanatics. I don't envy the people on either side of that story.

I've heard the same about the Apple App store, not sure if Apple did anything to prevent that in the meantime. Not sure if it should be prevented. In any case there will be more apps than anybody can browse manually, so all the app sto

That kind of thing would indeed be questionable, but it didn't sound to me as if Google wanted to implement it that way. From their history it also seems unlikely (ie giving away Android).

Except that in my experience, software development is mostly about learning things just-in-time. Most projects pose new challenges, or you want to use new technologies, and so on. Imagine you hired some Cobol developers some decades ago, an
