I don't think anybody advocates bullying, or that nobody should ever check up on kids. If they get into bullying, that is a problem and should be adressed. I don't agree that fighting games in general lead to bullying, though.

True, but what puzzles me is that few people seem to object to that state of affairs. Maybe it is just that TV is that good at soothing emotions, or people are already used to being worker drones from their childhood?

I think it is generally agreed that monogamy drives people insane.

The problem is not kids hovering over their iPads. I was pestered by parents to go outside instead of playing computer games all the time (in the 80ies). But I know how important computer games where to me, so I'll fight to allow my ki

I think your judgement is a bit biased here. Just because you experienced such things doesn't mean everybody else experienced such things. There are plenty of things kids enjoy other than bullying other kids, so why do you assume all k

I've got an idea how to pick a color for the bike shed: match the color of my iPhone 5c. Thank you, Apple, for resolving that problem once and for all.

A lot of epidemic diseases that plague us come from animal farming. Ever wondered why diseases have names like "chicken pox" or "pig flu"? That effect might even have helped in conquering the Americas, because the conque

Is the problem really hospitals, or is it industrial animal farming? Because I suspect it is mostly the latter. It is of course more convenient to rant against sick people than to give up the daily junk food burger.

I would have thought banks prefer to lend money for buying houses because they get the house as a security (if the lender can't pay up, the bank gets the house). Presumably the notion that houses are relatively stable investments lies

When I was a kid (in the 80ies) electronic music from synthesizers was booming. I already felt that becoming really proficient on a musical instrument was a waste of time, because computers would be able to do better. Same for drawing and p

I don't think I ever watched porn while chatting to someone, but occasionally I have been reading Hacker News while talking on the phone. Maybe that counts, too.

JavaScript is rather minimalist as well. It has some warts, but they are easy to avoid.

I'd prefer the other way round. JavaScript is better than most popular programming languages (including Python). It is not perfect, so I consent there might better languages out there.

Your proof that this doesn't happen is that you never think about it. I often think about it, I guess that is proof that it happens...

You'd want to do extended browsing on another device precisely because the iPhone is too small. Your mind is stuck in "faster horses" land and you can't imagine what use you could get out of a better phone :-)

By that logic, Apple should have never published the iPad because it is too big to hold in a human hand. Carrying bigger phones in a pocket isn't really an issue either.

Can't believe they didn't make bigger screens. iPhones seem so tiny these days. Also, just 33 votes on HN atm - made me realize that probasbly people are already using HN votes as input for their stock trading aslgorithms :-)

That's just dumb. The real problem is managing resources, which includes your health and energy. If you somehow can make yourself fit enough to work 100h, fine. But it is not just a matter of willpower. Not in the long run anyway.

You know how it feels if people dissociate from you in high school becasuse you seem nerdy? It's such a joke that feminists now try to turn that on the head and claim those nerds prevented them from programming for sexist reasons. No,

Only girls have a bad time at schools. For boys it is just fun and games all the time. They also never target jokes at each other. Imagine if there hadn't been a girl in that class. Who would those boys have directed jokes at? It would
