It's all about money, I guess. Probably they think you'll cost the country more than you'll contribute. (Not saying I like it).

Interesting, although I wonder if "death by dehydration" would be the correct labeling of those cases. Like if you are being stabbed through the heart, technically you die of heart failure.

I think it is generally understood that such articles are about averages. Your existence has no bearing on the proportions of boys vs girls who display certain behaviors. If there are on average gender differences in behavior, it makes sens

Sure, but that approach is also a root cause of overpopulation of the planet. Maybe you could even call it a kind of pyramid scheme, because everybody needs several children to support them (one is not enough, too risky). So obviously it is

The article mentions that he actually has enough money to live on, but works to get extra perks, like flights to visit his children. I suppose he is also a "protestant work ethic" kind of guy who can't stand not working.

Does this even need scientific validation? There seem to be people who can't code at all, so if you can code, compared to them you are an infinity times engineer.

I'm not sure it has stricter controls (think you can buy it OTC, too, but not 100% sure), but it also has better health insurance for everyone. Perhaps that could be a factor - people are more likely to see a physician before overdosin

You can kill yourself with Aspirin, in fact I thought that Aspirin was the #1 choice for that (without research). In any case, take too much and you are dead - I think not because of stomach ulsters, but because of bleeding in the brain. Ag

Typing "timer for 10 seconds" is similar to programming. Most people don't want to program. In a world where people still don't know what a browser is, I am optimistic for online-stopwatch.

Nice - although I have to wonder. It says "96% understand politics, vs 60% of non-homeschoolers". What would be the corresponding quotas for evolution theory? Also it would be good to have a comparison of pupils from similar socio

That's nice, too, although I think the concept of fractional powers was only introduced much later in my school.

I agree that probably training too much manual addition and multiplication is a waste of time these days. However, a bit of it still seems to be useful. For example I am often able to calculate the bill in a restaurant (not always, though).

I feel a bit bad for not memorizing it, to be honest. Not sure if there is any other way for learning to multiply? How do you "understand" that 6x 8 = 48? With bigger numbers, then you can apply a system. And as I mentioned I also

The problem is that something like sqrt(2) can not be represented as a number in a calculator. So as long as the calculator only operates with numbers, instead of doing algebra, it will do it wrong. In the case of sqrt(2) x sqrt(2), most ca

Well that is also wrong, or at least the .0 shows that the calculator is not doing the equations, it is just calculating. It doesn't know know that sqrt(2) x sqrt(2) = sqrt(2 x 2) = sqrt(2^2) = 2 And that is the kind of thing you get t

The driving factor for mathematics is laziness. I didn't even memorize the basic multiplication table (1-10) for a long time, but I remembered some shortcuts (like multiplying stuff by 9 was easy) and got by.

Do calculators even routinely work with infinite precision (like (sqrt(2) x sqrt(2) = 2)? I guess you could achieve some results with Mathematia or something like that, but I have my doubts about the average calculator. Sometimes it is stil

Why mention the gender, or anything? Why not just "3 people"? Was the number of people even relevant. It was a story. I don't think we want stories in general to be devoid of any ornaments at all.
