I don't think so - just because you don't worry about gender boxes doesn't mean you want to live all kinds of gender roles.

That gender discussion is so weird. It seems people who are concerned about being forced into a role because of their gender go to great lengths and mental acrobatics to define some kind of new genders. So they struggle and struggle to actu

Thanks, I read one of them and enjoyed it, although it wasn't an instant "get me the next one, too" experience. But I might eventually read the other ones, too.

I wonder if the secret just boils down to "I started offering SEO services instead of design services"? To be honest I wouldn't know how to guarantee a client that a new web site would earn them 100000$ more. I suppose that i

I am stunned that apparently there are no HTML5 based trading card games yet. I would have expected there to be hundreds already.

Thanks, I'll probably check it out. Wasn't there a movie about them recently? That might have put me off at first. Roughly same genre, I don't know. Ordinarily I am not even into magic, but the odd fantasy book sticks.

It's hardly an original idea to try to identify terrorists via social networks.

Then again, if you know of more books as fun as Harry Potter, please let me know. I am always in need of new reading material.

I used to have a Twitter clients with tabs, and one tab for the people I always wanted to read (~40), and another for the rest. Since I don't have that client anymore, my Twitter usage has declined dramatically.

I suppose if the repost gets a lot of upvotes, it was a good thing that it was reposted?

No, HN detects duplicates automatically. And if that mechanism fails, either the article just won't get upvoted, or it's an evergreen that is OK to repeat now and then.

Enough people are living as vegetarians to counter your claim of meat being necessary. Even so, meat consumption per person seems to go up everywhere, so even if you assume people need meat, a century ago they needed a lot less meat per per

The problem is in the tiny word "usually", I suppose. Almost every dog that attacks a human does so for the first time, to the complete amazement of it's owners.

Nothing in the OP mentioned entering homes to shoot animals.

What? Lot's of diseases are a result of animal farming - see "Guns, Germs and Steel" for an account of how the germs we bred in Europe helped deplete the New World of people who weren't exposed to animal farming yet. And

I don't want to know dogs and don't want to be forced to know dogs. Just saying - I am not in favor of shooting nice dogs, but dog owners really should understand that they can't force their dog lives on other people.

What would be an alternative? I don't want to be threatened by dogs on the street, and I definitely don't want to worry about my kid being mauled by a dog. I guess the rationale is that if a dog did it once, it'll be more lik

Shouldn't dogs that attack humans be put down in any case? I thought that would be standard consequence if a dog bites a person.

Well personally (as a dad) I am not convinced that society expects women to take care of children, as a "special burden". Rather, I suspect it is actually a privilege. Yes, women are usually expected to do that, but it is also tha

Might be worthwhile to point out that even if it should turn out to be true, this doesn't imply that male CEOs were paying their female employees unfairly before they had daughter. It would just show that they paid women more afterward

So you have an explanation why women earn less (which you believe - not sure if that is the correct one), but you still believe in discrimination? How does that add up?

No, the question is, why wouldn't anybody do it if it were possible? Are all investors (even female ones) so against women that they'd rather leave billions of dollars on the table than employ women? That seems extremely unlikely.

I live in Germany and tried to dig into the data a bit, and so far I am not convinced. It is very difficult to get precise data, for starters. I am simply sceptic about the "everything is the same" claim - in many cases, how many

It wasn't the best example, but let's take the area of a circle, which is r^2*PI. I don't even know the proof for that by heart, but I can still make use of the information. A proof simply tells me that something is true. Fur

The value of a proof is a different matter. And for example knowing e=mc^2 might be valuable in itself, independent of understanding relativity theory.
