Interesting. A friend of mine is planning on switching careers and is looking into these hack/code schools. I told him I couldn't give any opinion one way or the other because I don't know how much experience the students hav

Can you elaborate on lack of police? Have you been affected by the crime in Rockridge? I thought it was a pretty decent area the last time I visited.

Flagging this for later, as I'm curious to see the answers. Maybe it would be better to ask this on stackoverflow.com or one of the other stackexchange sites?

First, find out the reasons a monitor would make a high pitched noise, then work backwards to find out why this happens in your colored output scenario. I think it might have something to do with capacitors, I had problems with my video car

If you are sending email to people in the US, i'm sure they'd be able to interecpt the messages so it's a moot point. Most recipients are using one of the big mail providers like gmail or yahoo, which, if the reports are to b

While it is categorized there, most IS grads aren't qualified to work in Silicon Valley company engineering departments, or even in most engineering/software dev. departments of non-SV companies. To use IS grad unemployment rates in this ar

Stupid article. The author thinks "Information Science" qualifies as a STEM subject.

"Think of it as node.js or rails hosting"... so is that what it actually is, or is that a metaphor. If the latter, then I think the idea is still to complicated because I don't understand it. Not that anything I don't understand is complica

There aren't that many different ways to do it. Either cold turkey, or taper. Try cutting it down to half what you drink now. It'll be shitty, but stick with it. At least you're getting half. Look into the research about breaking habits, so

I agree. Worst people skills ever. I'm picturing the author of the petition as that nerd on the youtube video who freaked about about node.js not being fast. EDIT: This guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e1zzna-dNw

What do you do when you leave those sites? Where do you find work? Are those sites a stepping stone to getting started (building network/portfolio, etc)?

All of this... so true. Spot on. I'm seeing the same thing now. I'm in my early 30's and the younger developers we're hiring are doing all the shit work, and they are freaking out about following the rules and doing everything on deadlines.

Off topic - but how does one downvote on HN? I only see a small up arrow to the left of the commenters' names. No down arrow.

Bitcoin is too geeky for them, and probably worse than cash because they'd need to get their money back through an exchange like MtGox. With exchanges being required to register as MSB's/MTA's, the government might be getting records of all

Any personal experiences with this happening? I don't think there's a danger of it happening in this case because I'm not part of the company. The Enterprise Architect and the consulting firm are both outside companies that mine works with.

Agree that lots of small crappy exchanges with incorrect legal status will pop up, but that doesn't mean that at least one or two or three large-ish buttercoin ones won't start up. I think that will happen. So your point is partially correc

It's not a decentralized exchange. It's an open sourced exchange. It will be up to entrepreneurs to take the buttercoin code and set it up as the engine for their exchanges. The majority of the work will not be in the systems, but in settin
