> Coders made up 14% of employees at tech companies Wow is this true? If so, I'm extremely surprised it is this low. No wonder Elon could cut 80% of jobs and everything would keep ticking along.

I have fond memories of running Platoons in Planetside 2. The semi persistent world dynamics, combined with squads and then squads being able to firm platoons, and the map marker system. All of it felt very unique and polished, and not some

They should add a paid add-on where writers can have an LLM generate snippets from their articles and then post them as notes automatically in order to generate a bite sized feed from existing content. Gives Substack a foot in the AI door a

In some cases, certainly not! Companies will use AI to create all sorts of blogspam and filler content. But perhaps it's better for an AI to be doing it than for a human life to be wasted on creating such things.

AI is going to really filter out which people are providing value to society and which are not. Was this person's marketing material actually that valuable? Probably not. But obviously they need to make a living. Hopefully AI will forc

Oh thanks, I didn't see that. Probably because flagged comments are auto-collapsed even on your own profile. @dang - How long do flags last for? I didn't think my comment was that offensive, but regardless I appreciate the amount

Buy a projector. This has two benefits: 1) Most projectors are not smart, so it solves that problem. 2) You don't have a gaping black hole in your living space urging you to be sucked into watching it. I despise TV and mass media and w

Also still have a 2015 MBP that is going strong. Never changed the battery, but I probably should (though I usually use it on charge anyway). Best laptop I've ever bought.

India's poverty is in an entirely different category to that of the US or other developed nations. Once sewage isn't in the streets, come back to me about starting a space program.

How does this prevent humans from posting content generated by AI using their own verified identities? This coin doesn't solve the core problem which is telling AI and human generated content apart. I don't care of there is a cr

Many unrealistic things about this. Various hallucinations, mistakes, anachronisms, etc. Interesting, but not the mark of an AI capable of abstraction or memory.

You can't read API calls and know if they're real, or if the function names are plausible but non existent. This is the problem with GPT. It creates great sounding possible APIs, but has no idea which APIs actually exist.

How do you know what it created actually works and hasn't just been hallucinated? Have you checked every API call? Is it using non deprecated versions? Does it even run?

I wonder how much of the training data included Ads unknowingly (given how many Ads are already online), and therefore how much content generated is already an implicit Ad?

You underestimate the affect of Tiktok (and other social media) on the mental health of kids, not to mention how easily it can spread ideology. The relationship between those things and school shootings shouldn't need any explanation.

This is the problem was "endless economic growth". Being profitable is no longer enough. You need to double your share price YOY. This disgusts me and is terrible for society.

There will still be junior devs. My comment was only referring to particular types of junior devs. In short, the barrier to entry foe being a junior dev will be higher, and require more CS knowledge, perhaps even more hardware knowledge. No

It just raises the bar so that 3D artists who are only capable of reproducing the same boring things they saw in YouTube tutorials are no longer considered proficient. The more I think about this trend, the more I think it might be good. Bo

The word "authored" is being used completely wrong here. What ChatGPT did is equivalent to what a writing assistant might do who is given a list of bullet points by an author, and asked to expand them into a synopsis. We would nev

Do you know how many Ipfs nodes have actually pinned your content? Have they done so purely because they are ipfs enthusiasts? Do you feel this solution is better than hosting it on a raspberry pi from home or on a cheap VPS?

Just giving facts is difficult, since either side can dispute the sources used to prove those facts. I would much prefer each side presenting what they think the facts are.

This could mean the future goes one of the two ways. Engineers get lazy and converge on using only programming languages which AIs understand or have been trained on, or we forget about this waste of time and work on more important problems
