Why? I think most of us can recognize they're not necessarily good by our standards, so they're not the good guys. But they are the ones resisting a genocidal apartheid colonialist state, so they're at least better than the I

I'll happily admit that there is (to me) no reason to believe that humans can do things that a Turing machine could not, or that we are magically exempt from stuff like the halting theorem or have special insights in NP-complete proble

Humans can't see the balance at a glance, but we can still easily check the balance of arbitrarily complex nested parenthesis because we are not limited in the same way an FSM is. We're just way way way slower than a computer.

Exactly, and that's why it's so pointless to ban politics. Whatever you include in or exclude from that ban is in itself a political decision.

Your cluster consists of multiple machines ('nodes'). Upgrading is as simple as adding a new, upgraded node, then evicting everything from one of the existing nodes, then take it down. Repeat until every node is replaced. Downtime

Rust isn't so bad, is it? The example of `char ( ( x[3])())[5]` would translate to `[fn() -> [fn() -> u8; 5]; 3]`. It's inherently an ugly type, but I think it's easier to read than the C version.

The brilliant article you post argues against ring species, but it does so by demonstrating geographic breaks that caused... speciation. So perhaps ring species as a concept sadly aren't as much a thing as was suggested in my HS days (

"Species" itself is a vague concept in biology. It makes sense at a HS level like "dog is a different species from elephant" but it breaks down in more complex cases, e.g. lion + tiger. Ring species are also a nice examp

This all just speaks in favor of decolonialization, does it not? When decolonialisation is complete the $dictator won't be able to use it as a distraction, nor can it be a source of corruption. And apart from that it's a noble and

And in case your data does contain NULs, presumably one could add a layer of base64 encoding. Not nice for the filesize, but also much less likely to upset a text editor when the script is opened (even in the absence of NUL bytes).

This is also where Google went right with QUIC: encrypt as much as possible to show middleboxes the least possible. This combats ossification. Then again it seems likely middleboxes will just block QUIC (or UDP in general).

At that point wouldn't you "just" download the source and compile locally? Since you presumably could compile stuff. Add a 'bin' folder in your home directory to your PATH and enjoy.
