I have a hard time imagining software companies benefitting from copyright extension. The vast majority of software is obsolete literally decades before copyright expires, in most cases the source code will be lost or otherwise unavailable

This matches my experience. I automatically switch to QWERTY when I use someone else's computer, to the point where I get confused when I use the computer of one of my colleagues that also uses Dvorak. If you set up some shortcuts to s

Are you seriously suggesting that (all else being equal) a mixed diet is healthier than a vegetarian diet because in a mixed diet you consume less chemicals through fruit and vegetables?

So any url with url parameters (e.g. `?foo=bar`) are forbidden as values? Seems like a rather big sacrifice to make for simplicity.

Surely any species that manages interstellar travel will have a much easier time growing sentient beings to eat on their own planet(s), rather than going to other solar systems, lifting the people there out of their gravity well into space,

Lying can be perfectly okay under consequentialism, which also goes way back. Personally I'm not very convinced of ethical theories where lying is unethical in all circumstances (sorry Kant), and I suspect I'm not the only one. St

Where are the modern borders in this parallel? I suppose the US borders on Canada and Mexico, but it would be rather impolite to refer to their people as barbarians, and defense from the attacks of those countries is not where all the money

I do not. I don't live in the US either. Is that relevant? I never suggested that WhatsApp doesn't have to obey the law in the countries it wishes to operate in. But it seems very strange to me that a discussion about the moral an

There are techniques to identify a person based on their writing. Perhaps software could be developed that takes a sample of a persons writing, and then modifies text to match their style. Of course one would have to be careful that the int

Exactly, the clear ownership in Rust allows you to skip the defensive copying that so often happens in Java. Of course you get this property in most languages that do not use garbage collection, but I few restrict mutable aliasing.

Sure, you can hint with OR: `x = x | 0; x = (x + x) | 0;`. Bitwise operators always work on 32 bit integers in js. I'm not sure whether the js vms actually need or use this information.
