Does solar power generation really align with peak power usage... ? For most of Europe and the US, peak usage is during winter, and this is the time where the days are shorter, and the sun is lower in the sky.

Sounds a bit pessimistic. It has never been that easy to create music, videogames, produce videos, comics, and distribute them. Nowadays basically anyone can do it, so the amount of content available is gigantic. Moreover, alternative ways

The whole premise of this article is to compare the chess state of the art of 2019 with today, and then they start to talk about llms. But chess is a board with 64 squares and 32 pieces, it's literally nothing compared to the real phys

It's true, nuclear energy costs more, but you're avoiding the elephant in the room and don't address the core issue that solar and wind energies are intermittent, and that you will anyways need to use some controllable energy

It's great to shift on renewable energy, but the end goal is to reduce greenhouse gazes, and mostly Co2. Regarding this, they are still doing really bad [1], compared to countries like France who kept nuclear plants. I think that shutt

Nobody talked about "high performance". I'm just talking about using all the cores on a machine. People write stuff in Python and JS for obvious reasons that I don't need to detail here.

Threads in Python in python are locked to a single core, and in NodeJS it's really annoying to pull off. That's why people use PM2, Uvicorn and Gunicorn.

Well, running multiple instances of the same app is not only about "points of failure", it's also about using all the cores of your machine. Typically, using PI (nodejs), Docker or Uvicorn (python), you can spin up multiple i

I see. Wasn't aware of this. I considered taking SQLite for my current stack, but dismissed it because I've read lot of bad stuff with concurrency. However, it says that it doesn't work over networks, so basically you can

Well, since the SQLite database is one simple file, isn't SQLite a hassle when you have some concurrency/parallelism ? And what if you have separate services that need to access the same DB ?

Well guess what, old GPUs are still used a lot. According to steam hardware survey https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/ The GTX 1060 is more used than any RTX 40XX, and the 1080 is about as used as t

My point was different, the parent was saying "pick the right GPU then". But if I pick AMD I don't have Cuda, and if I use NVidia I have CUDA but buggy graphics. Some other features might or not be well supported by Linux dep

Yes, this is a good point, however when it comes to GPUs, you might not have an optimal choice at all, since some stuff come only on NVidia GPUs. However, after the GTX 1080 they released open source drivers and things should be better for
