Don't use stdfix.h if you are doing this though. As soon as you need to change your headroom (even temporarily within an algorithm), it will be a pain. Just use the boring C90 types (possibly typedeffed to something else) and write the

I did need a sqrt, but I cared more about predictability than accuracy, so I just did an iterative algorithm (actually two - one for the integer part, and then a second one to get better precision)

I used fixed point for my game's physics, because I wanted things to be deterministic across platforms and compilers (the game has a hidden "solver" which is used to tweak things a little bit to make the game more fun, but th

There is some evidence of this - if you can log in to app store connect (need a developer account) there is this page: https://appstoreconnect.apple.com/apps/pricingmatrix/1539646... It shows the tiers from 0 (fre

I remember as a kid looking at screenshots and thinking it was basically Mario Maker. When a friend got it, I can remember the bitter disappointment from both of us that it was not indeed Mario Maker. We did then have lots of fun in the com

You still need another device to connect to it right? The hardware reliability can only go down by adding more hardware to the system. Same goes for power, and to some extent network.

Isn't git designed around the linux kernel repository, which is a monorepo? I get the impression that things like LFS, submodule and subtree are hacks added onto git to try to make it behave like something it isn't.

I used plain C for my first iOS game, and I'm working on my second, and using C again. The ease of cross-platform development in C (using SDL2) makes it much nicer in my opinion (possibly just because I'm very much not an xcode fa

Obviously the defaults are going to be more popular than my non-default preference, and I would even agree that if there was no default, and people were forced to choose, they mostly wouldn't choose what I want. However, if you can tel

Every time I try to use Visual Studio as just a text editor I find its behaviour of spaces/tabs a complete disaster. I know that heaps of people use it and love it, so I can tell that it must be me that is the weirdo, but is it too muc

Calling C++ or Rust code from languages other than C++ or Rust respectively involved much more accidental complexity compared to calling them from C. Even calling C++ code from compilers other than the one you were using (e.g. you are using

Most of the development time was offline (on a train), so this basically ruled out anything to do with networking. There are probably heaps of ways to monetize it (from what I can tell, the "buy a game upfront" model is mostly dea

I developed most of my iOS game without internet access (I did it mostly on a train). I actually did this twice - once using a Mac, xCode, swift, and spritekit. Then the exact same app again using a Linux machine, text editor, C, and SDL2.
