Honestly, I doubt anyone who posts a generic jobs@ or online resume black holes will have any more success than any other recruitment platform. It's a real shame, because the density of smart people on HN is much greater. The key is pr

Thanks. Maybe our ffmpeg settings weren't creating intra-frames somehow (or we happened to drop every single one) because the stream would never recover. I'll probably try it again at some point soon. We really want jsmpeg to wo

We've actually experimented with jsmpeg for this type of thing. The problem we ran into was that jsmpeg seemed to require every frame from ffmpeg. If the browser or network slowed, the feed would fall behind the simulation, leading to

There's fig2coreos[1] which will translate your fig.yml into systemd files. Then you could deploy across a CoreOS cluster[2]. Pretty interesting. [1] https://github.com/centurylinklabs/fig2coreos [2] http:/&

If you have the choice to deploy a WPF app, couldn't you ship something using chromiumembedded to get the benefits of a web app without worrying about browser compatibility? In the past, I've even dropped a CEF WebView into WPF an

Sounds similar to EtherPad and Stypi, the latter of which is Y Combinator funded. Here's an example of pg writing an essay: https://code.stypi.com/hacks/13sentences

Didn't YC also invest their small amount for 7% equity and then throw a convertible note on top of it? Has this changed with the new deal?

My guess is that this is closer to a simulator. Just a Dalvik runtime and any necessary OS hooks, so it should be much faster than an ARM emulator or x86 Android build running in a virtual machine. possibly an ARM->Intel recompiler

We're using Fig (and docker-osx) for this. One command to set up the environment and another to bring in a database copy. I recently formatted and upgraded to Yosemite and was able to get back to work in under a half hour.

Good post but I wish there was more transparency in what YC was looking for (though I understand this is difficult, otherwise people would game it). There are companies that are accepted with just an idea and companies with six figure reven

I'd love to see YC innovate in this area rather than shame other incubators into better behavior. Accepting applications on a rolling basis instead of once every 3 months with a 2 month wait, for example. I'm not sure how well tha

Investors fighting over YC companies My impression was that it was less to do with fighting and more to do with YC companies not being able to raise funding because a YC partner hadn't invested in them.

There is a lot of memorization in eSports too. Remember where all the players hide in Counter Strike, remember build orders (openings) in StarCraft, remember skill and item orders in Dota clones.

This is incredibly frustrating. It has been sitting around unmerged for nearly a year because they can't decide what the syntax should be. Someone ought to just fork it.

What if instead of one service like Netflix, we had a hundred little ones that served the same total number of customers? The problem isn't Netflix. The problem is that a ton of customers are paying Comcast for 250 GB per month at 50 M

Honest question: Is $120k really that big of a risk when you're already giving away money for free to non-profits?

My favorite part last year was the smaller dinner the night before and the opportunity to meet people outside the talks. You should definitely attend if for no reason other than gracing it with your own presence.
