The Linux drivers for PS4/PS5 controllers actually do map the touchpad as a mouse by default. With clicking it mapped to mouse button left. Might have to manually load the drivers if the controller's USB vendor and product ID don&

I think the other point is that an open source driver from Valve would be nice. Unlike say the Linux kernel driver for the Steam Controller 1 which were reversed engineered. 8bitdo did contribute open source code for SDL's support of t

I don't think it's quite the same. Rollback netcode is like lockstep netcode, where the entire game is simulated locally and only inputs are networked. Since it's still only input being networked, network drops (or slow compu

Variable refresh rate is nice when your refresh rate doesn't match your output. Especially when you're getting into higher refresh rates. So if your display is running at 120hz, but you're only outputting 100hz: you cannot fi

Modern GPUs aren't constrained by the number of ports. You can use DisplayPort MST (hubs) to output multiple displays off a single port. But most GPUs are limited to being able to run 4 displays. Except some AMD Eyefinity can do 6

It was still an issue enough that some developers made BattlEye for anti-cheat 20 years ago for Battlefield games. It's still one of the more popular anticheats today. Other games did similarly. Quake 3 Arena added Punkbuster in a patc

Up until a year or two ago, the majority of monitors (and graphic cards) used DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1. With HDMI 2.1 (42 Gbps) having more bandwidth than the DisplayPort (26 Gbps). This is my case with my relatively new/high-end R

This ignores that community servers basically invented client anticheats. Almost all the current 3rd party anticheats started for community servers. Even Quake 3 Arena was updated with Punkbuster at some point. You still see this with moder

For some reason that DisplayPort is only 1.4. That's only ~26 Gigabit/s. While HDMI 2.1 is ~48 Gigabit/s. You can make up some difference with DSC, but I think that requires the display to support it: dongles won't decod
