That's my point. They shouldn't be. I never gave Github permission to publish my keys. The "public" part in the key is merely there to distinguish it from the "private"-part ("never share this with anyone&

At least Github were "kind" enough to strip the comments from the public keys they publish without permission. I would've been even more upset if they were leaking things like username@workdomain....

I strongly disagree with #2. Your public key should NOT be public, especially without your explicit consent. Specifically because, at least theoretically, it could be used to derive your private key. From a parandoid point of view that'

Can we also get a class action lawsuit started for their insistence on making keyboards WORSE with every new product release?

Bloody immigrants. Go back to your own country. Oh wait, sorry, Americans aren't immigrans, they're expats. My bad. Double standards on immigration are pretty shitty.

I suppose there are two discussions ... the low level technical one wrt libraries & static linking. And the high level, philosophical one, about cathedrals vs bazaars...

PHK makes a thoughtful point. But I don't know where to go from there. What are the alternatives to the Bazaar? We have two cathedral builders (MS & Apple) who have both built very large cathedrals with very tall walls around them.

There are no sure-fire shortcuts to happiness or enlightenment or whatever it is you're seeking. The Internet isn't "It" and Ayahuasca (or other hallucinogenics) aren't "It" either. There is joy and life t

Creating a GPG alternative is hard. That's pretty much the only reason why it's still around. That, and the ubiquity of e-mail. Sending encrypted/signed e-mail with GPG isn't hard when you're using things like Enigm

I don't think "snafu" quite cuts it. This is a fuckup of epic proportions. They screwed up quite badly by installing this crap and then made it worse by lying about it and pretending that it's not a security issue ...

Surely what is or isn't amazing syntax depends entirely on your preferences and personal experiences. I can't stand the Python syntax. Significant whitespace is an instant turnoff for me. For me, figuring out Rust is a lot easier

You would be right if the Solr admin page were the only administrative interface. It's not. You could send delete queries, create additional indexes, etc all without using the admin page, simply by sending http requests to the relevant

Solr is not a web-based application. You shouldn't directly expose your Solr instance to anyone. Regardless of whether or not you secure your admin interface. That's not Solr's core business, and I don't see why they sho

How do you mean? Translated literature loses a lot of nuance. And it's hard to be immersed into a culture when you don't speak the language.

Exactly. And it's obviously of great help when encountering people who speak said language. Communication is a wonderful thing.

Seems like more and more cars have radar/ultrasound sensors. Won't this eventually lead to interference? Can such a system be influenced by, say, a nutter with a stronger radar?

Learning to drive a car is hard. You have to watch the road, coordinate hands and feet, anticipate other drivers' moves and so on. No one bats an eye about this, because "it's a skill you have to learn". If you don'
