The two are obviously related, though maybe not causally. Over here in Belgium, such prudeness is pretty rare.

The Japanese are a bit special. Japan is hot and humid, and traditionally a lot of the labour would get you wet. It was not uncommon for Japanese men and women to work the fields, or catch fish, naked or nearly naked. In fact, some early We

What do you mean, 'fortunately'?. Not only is it disgusting from a hygiene point of view -- especially wrt sweaty teenagers! -- it's also a great way to come to terms with nudity. With porn as the main source of nudity, it&#x

I use awesomewm, which is, well, awesome. Each of my workspaces has a preconfigured layout: floating for browser, auto tiling for terminals, etc.

I think I'm going to have to change my mind about CBT. It seemed so crackpotty to me, but seems I was wrong! Slim waistline here I come.

Can't say i'm surprised. Their support and communication has been consistently horrible. Their focus on the OS entirely misplaced -- no, more eye candy is not the first thing we need. The platform had a lot of potential, but they&

Yeah. Why not fully sentient androids while we're at it! Do you know how much money museums have? Let me quote you a nice, round number: 0.

Museum software dev here. Museum folks are pretty primitive in a way. Unlike websites, in a museum it's really hard to know which exhibits or parts of exhibits are popular, and which are not. Maybe you have 100 paintings, but people ig

Not sure about MS languages, but some date utils make the distinction: week of year (1/1=1) or week (1/1~=53). Same with year of week vs year, where 1/1 could be year-1 if the year starts in the middle of the week, for instan

Maybe it's time the porn industry got serious about ditching flash. Porn is the only reason why I still use flash, and I suspect I'm not the only one.

The real question is: why are kids in the US lacking in independence? Most of what this article says about kids in Japan applies to a lot of countries in the EU as well. Why is the US somehow different?

Exactly. You can point to benchmarks that favour one or the other. Parsing is almost never the bottleneck.

What's wrong with asphalt? It can be easily recycled, it's an otherwise pretty useless component of crude oil of which we have plenty. It can be repaired with relative ease.
